Towing Rockwood 8336BH with 3/4 ton gasser

Hello

Does anyone tow one of these with a 3/4 ton gasser? I have a Chevy 2500 with 6.0L and 4:10. It’s well within ratings I am just curious if anyone has done it, how did the truck do?

Hopefully you get you answer, I pulled a slightly lighter TT with two different gas half tons. I also pulled two larger 5th wheels with a Ford 6.2 . You won’t have the wind profile of the 5th wheel which to me was the largest problem.

I am towing an 8324SB (front living room) with a 1-ton gasser. You have a 'dry' tongue weight 200 lbs. more than mine but similar overall weight and length on the 8000 series are all the same.

Pulling the weight is not the issue for me, even up grades. For me, I believe the length of the trailer is just a bit much in a bumper pull to achieve that 'don't even know it's back there' feeling. Even modest cross breezes make me very aware of it. I also have a shortbed (6.75') truck. In my posts here and on other forums on my towing experiences with this trailer, many have commented that a longbed truck would provide more stability.

I have a 4-point Equal-i-Zer that is dialed in nicely but in my particular floor plan, I believe the lack of tongue weight (11.5% per CAT scale) + shortbed truck prevents me from getting a better tow. I found that traveling with a full FW tank and all other tanks empty, helps quite a bit.

Since you have a different floor plan and that extra (1320 vs my 1115) dry TW may, you may not experience the issues I have.

I'd be concerned about the hitch weight. 1300# is a bit more than probably what the vehicle is rated for. I backed off several years ago on a camper with similar weights and had a 2015 3/4 ton Chevy 6.0 and 4:10 gearing. Salesman tended to agree with me that to much tonque weight. Later RJD

I used to have a 2016 Chevy 2500 6.0 with the 410’s and it pulled my 2015. 30QBSS with no problem

My brother tows a much larger fifth wheel (bath and a half!) with an F250 gasser. It, too, is well within its weight limits. He has no problems, other than paying for gas. He's towed from far upstate NY to FL and all up and down the east coast. You should have no trouble with your 2500 and the rig you mentioned. It will use LOTS of gas, but probably never enough to justify a bigger truck or a diesel unless you travel long distances frequently.

I tow a 8337RL which is the same length, weight and only 5lbs less hitch weight. TV is a 2019 GMC 2500 Denali Duramax. Of course the Duramax will tow better than a 6.0 gas, but the gas engine will tow the trailer anywhere you want to go. I have Equalizer 4.0 1400/14,000 hitch and I experience very little bouncing, no sway even when big trucks pass. I'm not going to say I don't know the trailer's back there (10,000+ lbs is hard to not notice), but It is a very comfortable ride.

Hitch and trailer weight is within a GM 2500 limits.

I towed a similar trailer in the same series but the Flagstaff line with a Chevy 2500. It towed very well, but we hated the truck not towing. The only time it felt slightly unstable was one of those days where the wind is high enough it was almost impossible to stand still with your feet at a normal stance. I would have left the Interstate sooner if I new the wind was that high.

I tried the TT with my F150, that was not a good or safe experience so we had to get rid of the Flagstaff.

I had a 17 2500 Chevy 6.0 with 4.10 gears. The hitch on my truck was rated for 2000lbs (factory). I regularly had 1500lbs tongue weight, pulled 9,500lb trailer with no WDH and thought the experience was just fine up to 75mph.

Steep grades required full throttle. I never saw the temp gage on the motor move. The trans temp never went above 185 and I didn't spare the whip.

A friend of mine bolted a super charger to his stock 6.0 and has been beating the snot out of it for years. He just changes the oil...
