Towing with 2018 Chevy Traverse W/Tow Package
So far so good with this vehicle - a 2018 traverse 3.6 with tow package. Purchased a 2021 Wolf Pup 16BHS and a WDH. Took the 100 mile journey home with it as the first trip. The car had plenty of power to pull it, even up some decent inclines. Averaged right at 13MPG. Just wanted to see what the opinions were here if this seems adequate or something I should look at changing out sooner than later?
I'm a little hesitant at the weight, but figure with a 5200lb max capacity and 4000 max GVWR on this trailer, weight should be ok. Biggest thing I notice is having to keep my hands planted on the wheel and making sure it's not drifting as you can certainly feel the movement back there. Nothing crazy but takes some getting used to. Never felt it move/sway much when trucks passed by and kept the speeds at 65 or under for the trip.
I plan on changing the tow vehicle out to a truck in the next year or so, but is it going to make much difference in how it feels behind me? Would an F150 or Expedition pulling the same trailer feel any smoother or is it pretty similar with bigger framed rigs? I used to tow a cargo trailer with an expedition several years back, but it was never over about 1500lbs in weight and didn't feel like much behind me most of the time.
