Tundra Prodigy Install

I've noticed a lot of Tundra drivers on this site so thought I would share. I got my Tundra a few weeks ago and love it so far. Haven't towed any distance with it but I am confident it will do great.

I love my Prodigy P2 so as soon as I found out I couldn't get an integrated controller in my truck I started searching for where to install my Prodigy. I decided to mount it in the small pocket in front of the shifter just under the Tow/Haul button.

The install here is quite simple. I used a credit card to work the trim panel loose and then 4 clips hold the pocket inside into place. Once you push the P2 into place insert the two screws that hold it to the mounting bracket (no bracket needed) and the hold it tightly in place. I added a few zip ties to the back just for extra security.

I used the prodigy pigtail that I fished down through the dash and then plugged into the factory plug. I had to extend the ground wire to get it to the factory ground but that was simple.

Any questions let me know. My father-in-law bought a Tundra one week after I got mine and once he saw my install he ordered a P2 and I installed in the same place.

That's a good clean looking install. I also have a tundra. I have a P3 I thought about putting it there or in the middle cubby because I have seen them there too. But I seen on etrailer where they put I above the gas pedal. So I chose to put it there. It's up high enough and out of the way. But your install looks great. What camper are you pulling and how much does it weigh. I have a 26 foot toy hauler that weighs 6500 loaded. I pulled it the other day when taking it to get new tires. I ran and weighed it and it was at 5000 and my tundra pulled like a champ. I was very happy running down the highway. I had a Titan and my tundra is much better.

I am pulling a Wildwood 26TBSS. It weighs around 6500 loaded for camping. I had to order a new shank for my WD hitch so I am waiting for that to come in before I can get it all adjusted for towing. Winter has finally broke here in WV and I dewinterized this weekend. I also added a set of Westin nerf bars and an Extang tonneau cover.

Looks good Skullskidr. Looks like they have changed the dash design some over the years.

Thanks Bri. Mine is the work truck without the console and rubber floor. I trashed my 2002 F150 with the light leather out on the farm...

I have a sequoia, same interior (almost). I put my controller over the gas pedal as I have some extra stuff that eliminates the storage cubby.

I cut the back side of the mount bracket making it flat so I could rivet it to the console and keep it tight. I made it look a pretty as I could! I'm not sure if you could do this with a '10 and newer models as they have knee airbags!

Yeah Shiney...I kept looking at that panel saying...man that would make a nice place to screw a controller to...pesky air bags!

Yeah those knee airbags eat up all the good space. At 6'8" my shins are as thankful for it being in the dash as I am!

Sweet love my crewmax also. Your camper is exactly the same as weight when loaded you are gonna be just as happy as me. The 5.7 is a beast. Here is a pic of mine.

Seeing how you are almost a foot taller than me I wouldn't want it anywhere near my knees either. Being vertically challenged has it's advantages

You mustn't have a sunroof or maybe you just stick your head out it if you do!

08 double cab 5.7 here. We have a 2014 couchmen freedom express 320bh on order. We are new to the TT scene. I believe we will be about 9K lbs ready to camp. As we have never pulled the camper, I am considering installing air bags before we even pick it up. What are thoughts on this. Now or wait?

Yeah wow...isn't 9k over your towing capacity even without passengers?

With towing pkg 10,600 towing capacity. We also have the prodigy brake control that was installed prior to us purchasing the truck. Our typical camping is done within 1 to 3 hours of home.

Way too much trailer. I am a Tundra owner. Mine is 6900 and is at the limit of my GVWR on the Tundra. I have 1380 of payload. Add 35 lbs for me, 350 for the family and dog. That leaves me 995 for the trailer. I am sitting at about 880 for my tongue weight (12.7%). That leaves 115 lbs left over.

Truck has plenty of power, but the rear end is squishy even WAY under towing capacity.

I am sure the actual gvwr is higher than 7200 pounds. If the f150 with max payload can have a gvwr of 8200 pounds and as far as I know all it is is a different rear end ratio. I have looked under both trucks and the beef of suspension is no more on the f150. And the rear axle of the tundra is bigger which are bearings. The leaf springs are about the same. But the tundra has a rear axle of 4.30 and highest on f150 is 4.10 which I think comes with max payload package. Considering almost all half tons gvwr is around the 7200 pound mark. If Toyota wanted I am sure they could go higher on gvwr. But are the only manufacturer that is following new tow standards. I am confident the tundra could handle more payload but if an accident was to happen then insurance would have a field day.

I think it needs stiffer springs and LT tires. That would make it a tow monster. But that would take away the cushy ride 95% like over being a tow monster.

I will be running real close to the gvwr of my tundra but I am somewhere around 400 pounds under my rawr and well under the fawr. So I'm not over loading the axle at all and will be about 1500 pounds under gcwr so I'm not worried anything with my tundra. It's a lot more truck that my old Titan ever was. My father in law has a 2006 Chevy 2500hd with 6.0 and my rear end on my tundra is the same size as his and could out pull that truck all day and he has a lighter camper than I do. I was told the a tundra is the closest thing to a 3/4 ton truck without actually being one.
