turned to tight, did the back window in. Did I set my Anderson Ultimate hitch wrong.
Attachment 248048Well, I did the too-tight turn in a cul-de-sac and busted the rear window. It was dark and yeah, obviously I didn't watch close enough. My question is did I set up my Anderson hitch wrong. With an Anderson hitch you have two ways to set the adapter. swapping it around would move the kingpin back about 8 inches and way back of the rear axle and put the Pinbox close to the tailgate. But I wouldn't have hit the window in the turn (I was tight). Or was it set right with the king pin close to the center of the axle and just should have watched my turn closer. (the Anderson hitch in the bed was in the right way)
The truck is 2019 RAM with the 6' 4" bed not the shorter one.

I think it goes the other direction. It's dark and snow on the ground or I would go out and look at mine. Pretty sure mine faces the other direction.

If so i may switch to a reesebox or similar as i don't think I have to have the weight as far back but I'd still gain the for inches that would have kept me out of trouble. ☹️

I have mine installed the same direction as the OP’s. I did so to pull the 5R in closer. The other direction is the normal way, but according to Andersen, either way is correct. It depends on your particular needs. The front cap on my 5R is rounded on the corners so contact with the cab is less of a concern.

The way that is pictured puts the rv closer to the truck which is not good in this case. I have mine as pictured but I have an 8 foot box so there are no issues. It can be installed either way depending on application.

X 2 and mine was installed by dealer and I also live in a cul-de-sac and never had an issue making the tight turn had to make extra tiht no long ago due to a car parked in way and turned sharper with out hitting cab. Later RJD

WAIT! Don't reverse it until you've checked closely. If you reverse it from the current position you do gain clearance between the cab but you put the pinbox closer to the tailgate and to the truck bed sides when you turn. Read (and follow) the instructions from Andersen for measuring the clearance. Either position can be correct. The dealer set mine up like yours after doing the measurements. The weight on your truck is the same in either position, it doesn't change.

Just to clarify: are you calling the pin box a jackbox?

I was, until you clarified it. Lol. I guess I'm just a pin-head.
Thanks

My GMC has a 6.6 ft bed and I have the same pinbox you do and I have my Andersen Ultimate attached the same way you do. Positioning the Andersen this way moves the 5th wheel 8" closer to the truck cab and by moving the rotation point it eliminates having the rear portion of the pin box possibly hitting the walls of the truck bed on an extreme turn.
BUT...8" closer to the truck was too close to the cab for my 6.6ft bed so I also moved the position of the gooseball in the bed away from the truck cab by 4" by using the Curt 4" goose ball extender Curt Goose Ball Extender See this Amazon link for a picture of what I used.
With the Andersen Reverse on Pinbox (like what you did) and Curt Extender in the bed, the net is that your trailer is then only 4" closer to the truck cab, not 8". I can safely do 90 deg. turns. My only caution for you is that my bed is 6.6ft, your is 6.4 ft, this setup may not be enough for you.

If I turn the adapter around I get to closer the tailgate, see pictures. Reversing the hitch would only move me closer to back window. I think Reese goosebox might put the pin box in a better position

The best position would be closer to the tailgate but not as close as above. but there is no middle position. When I flip the adapter I move 8" forward. So I'm thinking strongly of going to the goose box. I'm away from the truck until the weekend but I need to find out how far the goose ball is from the tailgate. the Goose box dimensions are on line and I can see where that would put me.
