TV fuel mileage?

I was just wondering if we were getting reasonable fuel mileage?
We're pulling a Flagstaff 8528CKSS, real length 30.5 feet, weight 7500 lbs empty, with our old 96 F250 7.3 diesel. We're getting about 14 mpg on a Canuck gallon, or about 11.7 on the US gallon, under neutral wind conditions at 65 mph. I did put the bigger exhaust on, but that is all.
Is that reasonable mileage?

We have been getting 10.5 mpg at about 19k gross combined. It is very hilly around here. Also pull at 65mph. I am hurting myself with oversize tires and wheels too.

My Powerstroke diesel 6L gets 12 MPG pulling fully loaded. On the flats with no head wind I could get 14 mpg but that doesn't happen much.

Jeez. I'd kill to get that kinda mileage. I haven't hit 10 mpg yet!

My 4.10 rear end equipped Dodge dually will return 12 pulling my 13,350 pound fiver to the coast and as low as 8.5 pulling over the mountains.

I have no idea how many miles you have on your powerstroke but my mileage started getting better after 10-15,000 and gradually increased.
I have the standard rear gearing. I think it may be 3.83 or less.
Without my trailer I can easily get 19 MPG and my highest is 21 plus MPG on a 2 day drive with no trailer and all highway.

Every Ford truck that I have had (all gassers) continued to improve on gas mileage up through 30M miles.

The mileage read out on the my dash says that I'm getting 19 litres per 100 Km pulling the trailer (12070 lb dry weight). That seems to be about 15 miles per Imperial gallon. If that is accurate, I'm really pleased. Without the trailer I'm getting 14 litres per 100 km which is around 20 mpg. On our first trip I drove between 65 and 70 mph and the truck still has only 8600 Km on it so I expect if I slow down and the engines breaks in more my mileage should improve.

I never gave it a thought other than it was going to be very bad !! Im not using my F-150 for anything other than pulling the TT. Usually drive the Honda Prius.....money saved on this goes to gas money camping!! lol

Snowyowl, the mileage computers are an approximation. The only way to be sure is to do the calcualtion. If you have been on a trip already, I am surprised you didn't check your mileage. I have a friend who relies on the computer, as he is afraid that it is way off!

If your'e worried about fuel mileage then ya can't afford the gogo juice to pull with. We made a disney trip back when the stuff was $4.70 a gallon and it was 2600 or so miles round trip.

Swipe the card. Close your eyes. Pump kicks off cause ya hit the pump limit. Put hose up. Swipe the card again. Close your eyes. Pump kicks off cause ya hit the pump limit. Put hose up. Swipe the card again. Close your eyes. Finally the auto shutoff stops the pump. Squeeze out the last 4 gallons of gogo juice your rig will hold. Hand the nice long receipt that has 3 card swipes to the boss lady who handles the books and smile as you're pullin out of the station.

There's a certain satisfaction of having 88 gallons of get'er there fluid on board.

I get anywhere from 9-12.5 pullin and 14.5-17.5 deadhead. But I really don't care too much anymore. Used to be a big thing to me trying to squeeze out every MPG. Not anymore.

I no longer worry about MPG and I don't buy cheap beer anymore either. Good scotch and Irish whiskey are also not so inexpensive pleasures of mine as well.

I tend to agree with this. I monitor the read out but mainly to see how my driving habits change the mileage. As long as the read out is fairly consistent, then I'm happy with it.

Well, a couple of things here. First, I have close to 40,000 miles now. No discernible improvement since I got it with 25,000 miles. Second, you have the 6.0L. That's a whole different engine than the 6.4L. The stupid emmissions junk they put on now really stinks. With some mods, I'm sure I could get better, but I'm not much of a modder. Especially with the warranty stuff. But I like the way it pulls, and I can deal with the mileage. I just love the truck and camper. I don't overly worry about my mileage, and enjoy things much more.

My friend has a similar truck, with some kind of afterburner on the "soot filter"? It uses fuel to burn off the buildup in the filter. That thing was cycling several times a day, and it uses a LOT of fuel. He took that off and chipped it, and is getting about 4 mpg more now (as long as he keeps his foot out of it!)

Well then. I guess I'm arrogant. But I already knew that.

And I did give info as to my MPGs. Ya must've missed that part eh?

FWIW...... We also budget our "holidays" (we call 'em vacations). Fuel for the rig is a heck of a lot cheaper than plane tickets and eating out every day while on vacation. But I digress....
