UPDATE: No Camping For Us....Thanks Thieves

My stolen TV was never recovered (2006 Chevy 2500HD, CC, with 6.0 Gasser) so my insurance company declared it a total lose and we received our settlement after 20 days. We recently purchased a new 2016 Rockwood 2703 (6514lbs Dry and max 7708Lbs loaded) had it at the scales so I won't go in to details) in June so we only had it two months before the TV was stolen so I'm not getting a new trailer any time soon. We went on a few trips in the old TV it did fine really had no issues it was rated to tow 9800 and had a payload of 3096 lbs although its just my wife and I and are two Pomeranians we take alot of stuff with us..Firewood, Dog Pens, Coolers ...The list goes on and we didn't want to be limited by some of the payload capacities on the 1/2 ton trucks that wouldn't fit our needs so payload was a concern with the new truck.

I was debating between the gas and diesel engine choices and ultimately chose the diesel for a variey of reasons (Again won't go into details that is an ongoing debate on the forum)....We looked at the Chevy and the Dodges (Didn't care for the interior of the Fords) So after it was all said and done we bought a new 2015 Dodge 2500 with the Cummins over the weekend and we are looking forward to breaking it in. I was happy with the deal we received almost 20% off the sticker of 60K so 48K and change.

I believe it will fit our needs. I'm sure some will say it's over kill, Some will say you should have went with the 3500 SRW or dually, Some will say you should have just got a 1/2 ton gasser or I should have looked at the Ford Eco Boost and that's all well and good everyone is entitled to an opnion we should all be Happy Campers

Glad you finally got it settled. Good looking truck, I wish I could trade my 1500 in for a 2500, just can't afford it at the moment. You should be happy with the way that truck drives and pulls the camper.

Nice! Wish I could trade my own 2006 Silverado 2500HD 6.0 gasser for one of those, but I suspect your settlement didn't quite cover the cost! Enjoy!

Would love to hear some feedback on that truck after a few trips. I have a 2014 Ram 1500 Laramie that I really like but I didn't think I'd be towing anything with it. This year we bought a 2016 26DBH Grey Wolf and it tows easily but the wife is already talking about getting a FW! So I'm thinking about a 2500 in a couple years for any future RV upgrade.

Good truck, but know, your payload is less than your old truck.
2100 lbs I believe.

I had basically same truck and trailer. 4 people in the cab, left 800 for tongue weight. So I was over gvwr. ( on cat scale )
Just a heads up.

I have the 2014 version of that truck and really love it. This weekend I bought a 4,000 pound bandsaw and because of the size of it I had to load it onto the very front of my equipment trailer to clear the fenders and ended up with about 2000 pounds on the trailer tongue. Between the trailer weight and the 1000 pounds of other stuff in the back of the truck it was over on paper but only sagged about 2 inches in the rear (actually looked good and pretty level) and drove fine. The new coil rear suspension on the Rams is very nice.

Granted the payload is less the yellow sticker is 21XX on the new Dodge and I'm comfortable with that given the tongue weight of the trailer was close to 800lb when I had it at the scales with the old TV...The thing was yeah I could put more payload in the old TV not that I ever maxed out it I was well within the limits the problem it was straining to go up some of the steeper inclines in the Western USA pulling my old #6000lb TT with the 6.0 gasser. I couldn't imagine having a max payload of the 3096 and pulling the old TT over some of those passes and now the new TT is almost another 2000lbs heavier.

The other thing was registration on the new truck here in CA was $643 for this year it goes by weight so a 3500 is even more $$$ to register I think its another $100 or more per year whether it's gas or diesel just another expense I didn't want to have to pay. The plan is to keep the new TV and TT 10 years then re-evaluate LOL we will see how that goes

Congrats on the New Ram, you are going to love the Cummins. I have a 2012 3500 Limited with the Cummins and it's bar far the best tow vehicle on the market, you can't beat the Cummins Diesel, more stock torque than anything on the market. Hook up and go camping and enjoy
