Vehicle to be Towed

We have a 2019 Forest River Forester 3051SF. We are looking for a tow vehicle with an interest in a Mini Cooper.

Can anyone assist with information on if we can flat tow a Mini Countryman S AL4 AWD? It has a manual transmission.

You will have to look in an owners Manual to find out. Usually if there is a manual transfer case that can be shifted into neutral, your ok.

If you don’t yet own the car, go to a dealer that has one on the lot and ask if you can read the owner’s manual. Usually the manual will have a section on recreational vehicle towing of the car. Do not ask the question of any dealership personnel, as they likely won’t know or they will just tell you what they think you want to hear. You could also look on line for an owner’s manual.

The Dinghy Towing Guide does not list any Mini vehicles as flat towable, but maybe they simply didn’t include them.

When we researched toads 3+ years ago, the manual trans Mini Cooper was a real vehicle of interest for us. A lot of folks are towing them. As I recall, the manufacturer does not recommend that they be 4 down towed, but the consensus was that this was more of a “cya” action on their part.

FYI, Manuals for most all late model cars can be found on-line.

We tow a Chevy Spark, with manual trans, which weighs 2300 lbs, making it ideal for the MBS Sprinter based class C’s.

Generally speaking I don't think most if any AWD cars can be towed 4 down, they need a full trailer.
Many 4WD vehicles will have a neutral setting on the transfer case and can be towed 4 down.
Most if not all front wheel drive with a manual transmission can be towed 4 down.

My guess is you can't tow your mini 4 down do to the AWD.

Trailer life (I think) publishes an annual towing guide that covers a lot of vehicles.
