WDH hitch recommendation

I've always had a Class A, but just bought a new Alpha Wolf 23RD-L that will be towed behind my Nissan Titan 2WD, (Tow Pkg, w/brake controller) and has a 9500# tow rating. The TV weighs 5300, the Camper 5600# UVW. The Camper has tandem axles and is just under 30' in length with a 600#TW.

I know I need a WDH, but it's overwhelming...looks like hundreds out there. I need a few recommendation to start researching and thought I'd get some ideas from all you experts out there.

I'm a decent driver, used to a Class A, but nothing behind it. Would like something with a little Sway control, but it's also going to be an occasional use thing...we aren't full timing and don't expect to, so I'm hoping it's something simpler to use. I don't mind spending a little, but don't want to waste it either.

Thanks all, I do appreciate it...

I like my Camco R6. The bars run parallel to the frame so there is nothing to drag. The sway control is easy to turn on and off and is effective. Best of all, when cornering you do not need to turn it off- it will disengage itself once you have turned to a certain point.

Yes there are better options- and much worse options. I feel that the R6 is a solid mid-high end WDH.

Although I use (and like) the Fastway E2 WDH, you may want to take a look at the Andersen WDH since it is supposed to be very easy to adjust.

X2 for Andersen

Have used it for several years now. Had Equalizer 4 point which worked as advertised but became too heavy for me to lift. Andersen is much lighter, good sway control, easy on/off.

Take a look at the Husky Centerline TS #32218 it's rated for 800-1,200 TW IMHO it's a great hitch for the price point ...Looking at Amazon it's going for $318 and that includes the hitchball.

Husky also makes the #32217 with 600-800 TW it goes for $294.88 on Amazon. I know you mentioned 600lb TW is that is a published number or is it a real went to the scales and weighted it number ?

I have the Husky Centerline TS #33039 1K to 1.4K TW RVupgrades.com is selling it for $276.12 with free shipping. I'm very happy with mine and at under $300 it's tough to beat but it maybe overkill in your current situation.

I am completely happy with my Fastway E2.

Many tout the ease of adjustment on the Anderson but the fact is you only set it up once and you're good unless you change TT or TV.
The bigger advantage I see with the Anderson is the lighter weight of the hitch itself. To me that wasn't enough of an advantage to offset the $150 price difference.

They all work.

I'll add my name to the endorsements for the Fastway E2, but that's the only WDH I've used. I'm towing an Alpha Wolf 26DBH-L with a GMC Sierra 1500 w/ Tow Package.

I was fortunate that my RV dealer did a great job setting it up.

X2 on the 4-point EQ. Running Blue Ox on our 36' Cherokee, but I liked the 4-point much better and you are correct...it is on the heavy side, but that's not an issue for me......yet.

Weight is an issue for me to consider. I've had major back surgery and never made it back to 100%. Bending over and lifting weight makes me hurt.

Getting old sucks...

5600 lbs dry will be about 6600 lbs with options and stuff.
6600 * 13% = 858 lbs estimated tongue weight (TW). I always recommend adding 100lbs to that number (to avoid porpoising/bouncing), then round up to the next WDH rating. A 1,000 lbs kit should be fine, unless you expect to really load up the front end closer to 15%, in which case you'd want a 1200 lbs kit.

This much TW on a 1/2-ton pickup may be too much for the Andersen to effectively handle. I'm not saying that it doesn't have enough weight rating, or that it will be damaged. I'm just saying that this system is not able to effectively transfer enough weight when you are using a significant amount of the truck rating.

That said, given significant back problems, the Andersen is likely your best option. If you go that route, I would simply recommend you keep the TW as light as possible, without going under 10-11%. That should keep TW at around 700 lbs, which should be good with the Andersen, behind that truck.

Thank you all so much, this is a lot of great information and is very helpful.

My trips will be lightly loaded, most of which will be outfitted for just a couple days, so there won't be a lot of weight loaded up front. Sounds like I'll be taking a good hard look at the Andersen to start, but will look at the others as well.

Thank you all so much for your input...hopefully I can help out later with other things! And I can't wait to get this thing set up and camping. *sigh*

Had very good experience on a smaller camper with a Reese Dual Cam. It got a little overwhelmed by my current camper, but on my old Roo 21ssl, it was fantastic.

I have the blue ox and like it. The head is about 45 lbs and then add the spring bars separate after you are hooked up.

The other one you could try is a propride. I do not have experience with this hitch so I know I’ll miss some things but the general stuff is they cost About $3000 but once assembled majority of the weight is on the TT and all you have to do is line it up and all that fun stuff. And people that own them swear by them. Just something to look into.

I too have a Nissan Titan, a 2017 4x4 crew gas. I bought the Blue Ox and it is easy to take on and off. My back is not great or knees and it is a piece of cake. I do not have sway but I have alot of washboarding....thinking I need to put more weight on the front axle of truck and dump those china bombs. BTW...I get a whopping 8.5 mpg on my 1st tow to Cherokee NC this weekend from central NC. But that Titan did awesome going up AND down Black Mountain. I put it in 4th gear with tow mode and it just eased down that hill.

I went ahead and ordered an Andersen. It’s not super cheap at $450, but sounds like it’ll do the job and is as lightweight as I could reasonably expect.
