Weighed the F350 and Fiver today

Well, I decided to go ahead and get it all weighed today, so I hitched up and drove down to the Cat Scale about an hour away. Here are the weights;
Hitched to fifth wheel without driver, without passenger, but with a half tank of diesel. Truck GVWR is 11,500.
Steer axle 4740
Drive axle 5800
Both trailer axles weighed together 9460
Total 20,000

Then I unhitched and weighed truck alone. This time with driver (225) but no passenger but with half tank of fuel
Steer axle 4940
Drive axle 3440
Total 8380

This gives me a pin weight of 2360 (payload is 3532)
Total fiver weight 11,820, and Fords specs are 15,700 max fiver tow weight. Somewhat lightly loaded because the refer wasn't loaded for a trip.

There is a small inaccuracy due to DW being unavailable at the time, (125lbs) and I had to get out and walk up to the scalemaster to get weight ticket the first time. The second time I called them on phone so I was sitting in drivers seat for the weight. Not a big deal really.

So, overall, it appears that I'm well within the trucks ratings, and also within the camper tire ratings. I'm making some assumption there based on camper axle weights, and an apparent good reserve on the tires. Actual weight on axles is 9460, and tires are rated at 3420 each. I'm glad I weighed it, because I feel a little better now just knowing.

Anyway, I hope this data might help someone else.

Your payload is actually 3120. The sticker is a useless piece of trash. Everything else looks good and you're way under on the rear tires, roll on!

Okay, help me understand the 3120. And a lot of the carmakers published data is junk, but it's the best we have to work from is it not?

Gross subtract actual weight of truck.

11,500 subtract 8380.

Add the 225 for yourself and you get the correct available payload number of 3345. Incorrect math can certainly be confusing. Subtract a bit from that though for 1/2 tank of fuel. Your sticker was about right on.

Okay, that makes sense. Also, the 8380 includes me, toolbox, hitch, and our little Boston terrier which would all extract from payload. So that would make the 3120 a good number, and realistically the number is 3000 after DW gets in.

Thanks guys.

Okay, makes sense, and when I top off with diesel, that will another 100 lbs +/-.

Thank you ibr.
