Weight distribution hitch

Hello everyone. I currently have a 2020 Flagstaff 19bh E-Pro. It weighs just under 3100 lbs UVW. With a hitch weight of approximately 360 lbs. I bought and used a Camco ReCurve R3 weight distribution anti sway hitch from the dealer with the camper. We just ordered a 2021 Flagstaff Superlite 26fkbs. It should be delivered by the end of February. The UVW is 6800 lbs with a hitch weight of 946 lbs. The dealer is saying that my current hitch is sufficient for the new camper but it seems a little under rated for me. I uploaded a photo of the name plate on the hitch for you to look at. I was hoping someone could explain how it read it. And let me know if I need a bigger hitch. thanks you for you help.

If you are using a weight distributing hitch, you have 15,000 trailer weight and 1,500 pound of tongue weight. The 6,000 and 600 are if you are just on the bumper without weight distributing hitch. Do not exceed what your rig can pull. Should be a sticker in the door with max combined vehicle weight.

If it was a GM truck a WDH would not be required until there was significantly more weight on the tongue. My 17 doesn't need one at 2000lbs on the tongue and I don't use one for my trailer with 1500 on the ball. Tows fantastic at the speed limit even across the windy plains out west.

Look in the manual for your truck. It was tested under SAE J2807. Part of that test checks the amount of tongue weight that it takes to negatively affect handling (when a wdh is needed to return handling).

If your truck requires a wdh, then by all means you should get one. If it doesn't do what everyone (wdh or not) should be doing with proper loading...Load tongue heavy. Keep from adding weight behind your trailer's axles.
