Weight Distribution Hitches
We are going to be upgrading to a larger trailer and will need to purchase a weight distribution hitch. Looking for recommendations. The tow vehicle is a Ram 1500 with a max towing capacity of 11,600 pounds. The trailer GVWR is about 6,700 pounds. I'd like one where backing up is still possible.
Thanks for the help!

Equalizer 4pt will likely be the landslide winner for less than $750.00. Do some internet surfing for your best price.
VERY happy with mine.

I have a 10,000 / 1,000 lbs Equali-z-er in the classifieds for $350 if you are anywhere near Cincinnati. We bought a 5er so don't need it.

Some hitches have a separate weight dist and sway bars (so a total of 4 pieces), the equalizer has the w/d and sway in one bar for each side (so 2 bars only), and you can back up with it, because you cant back up with some of the others.

I also have the 4-point Equalizer. Good product
Also, ignore the 11,600 lb tow rating. You won’t come anywhere close to that on a Ram 1500. You need to focus on your vehicles GVWR (curb weight + payload )and rear GAWR.

I have the Andersen hitch. I like that the hitch is very light compared to the typical old bar systems.

you said for your next trailer. so go pick out your next trailer, get your best price, than tell them to throw in the hitch or no deal. you could even tell them which one you want.

Also have and like the equal-i-zer. I bet most folks like what they have regardless of brand. Our WDH has been through 3 trailers with us without complaint. Would do it again.

The way units are flying off the lots ? If you said "Hitch or no deal" they'll just sell the unit to the next person in line.

Ditto. Very happy with mine. Easy to connect, no greasy bars, quite operation, and hitch can be used as a normal hitch too.

We have recently switched to the Andersen hitch. Gotta say, those 5 minute hookups (instead of 15) and the light weight are nice! Took a while to get it “dialed in” but pretty happy with it. The sway control is excellent.

Thanks for the tip, unfortunately I can find anyone who can get me one reasonably soon. Seems "Out of Stock" is the catchword on this one too, like a lot of other stuff these days.

Contact Andersen directly. They may be able to help you.
Picking up the Andersen hitch head is one of the best things. My wife can and often time does it herself.
NO GREASE is another great thing about the Andersen hitch. I cannot and my wife cannot say how much we do not miss the grease. In fact when you get your trailer clean all of the grease out of the ball head then just re-lubricate the latch mechanism.
I would also recommend a hitch storage bracket like the Hitchport. There are other, but the Hitchport is the lightest that I know of.

Like my 10K Equalizer. Was a little noisy until I lubed it up and got the Teflon pads for tongue, but works awesome.

10K Equalizer (brand) on the same 6000 pound trailer for 15 years. Highly recommended. Used is every good as new. Just needs a touch-up of black paint every 5 years. One trailer. Three tow vehicles. Dirt simple technology. BB-size dollop of the same grease I use on the ball under the bars stops the banging.
Installation on an empty trailer will need to be redone in loaded trim. Dealer mounted ours when we bought the trailer and I needed to reset it after I got it home and loaded. Don't expect the minimum wage "mechanic" at any dealer to set it right.
