Smile Weight distribution systems

Hello everyone, just brought a 2016 wildwood xlite after using pop up for 4 years. Looking for a good weight distribution system, any suggestions.

Hello and welcome.
I have being using the inexpensive Curt round bar weight distribution system with the Curt Sway Control for 3 years with no problems.
It can make the front of my truck be back to the unload hight even with my heavy camper tongue weight.
Also it is quiet and easy to fine tune.

Discussed a lot. Like ... a ton. This forum has a good searching function and I recommend it highly. Searching is your friend.

Two common WDH:
Equal-I-zer 4 point WDH
Blue Ox

As important as the WDH function is the built-in sway control (anti-sway) that these systems have. Get a good one and it the trailer will be rock-solid behind you.

Good luck.

Welcome to the forum from MN. I use an E2 (baby brother to the Equalizer) and have had no complaints. Whichever hitch you decide on, read through the instruction manual several times so you understand how to set it up. My initial dealer setup was fine for the empty trailer, but I've adjusted it twice since, and getting any hitch dialed in makes all the difference in the world when towing.

My trailer came with an E2 and I really like it. The hitch is heavy.

When searching...keep in mind....some WDH systems require you to unlock or remove the "Sway Control" before backing up, and that can be a real P.I.T.A. Equalizer 4pt...Blue Ox and some others don't require you to disconnect the sway bars and you can just back up normally.

Don't know about the blue Ox but the Equalizer 4pt will pop, creak, and groan at you. Not a problem once you get used to it. It's just 'chatty'.

If you want something that works well and is light to handle, take a look at the Andersen WDH.

I had the Equal-I-Zer 4 point on our last TT and it was a great hitch, but it groaned a lot and it weighed a ton. Just the bars by themselves were heavy.

A trusted old friend

I been camping over 20 years using the same Reese WDH w/ trunion arm/sway control cams. My wife broke 2 other brands WDH prior to the Reese. We have had it on TTs from 24ft to 32ft 5500lb to 9500lbs, on trucks from Suburbans to 2500 Duramaxs, we average 5,000 to 10,000 miles a year per logs. 5291m this year already. Used in Mts, Highways, Cities and bad/ windy weather. Can handle higher tungue wieghts easily, we have often pull with loaded tanks.

Currently pulling a 29 ft Rockwood 8100lb max load w/a Ram 1500 using the very same Reese hitch, have never needed to buy another WDH. Now the negatives-Dealers don't like to sell-takes longer to setup right, cost is about $125 more than others, intial setup requires tuning after first pulls, can be noisy in sharp turns.

Money well spent, a trusted old friend, a true work horse.

Lots of opinions on this...

For me the best value (price and function) was the Camco R6. Great integrated sway control, can still turn with it engaged incase you forget to turn it off, and bars run next to your a-frame- not below.

Best suggestion, do some reading here, watch some reviews online, decide on your budget, and buy the one you feel looked like it had the best reviews that you can afford. But, don't just settle on cheap- there is a big difference in quality and this is about your safety.

My Blue Ox is rather "chatty" also, but gives me someone else to listen to and is rock solid

Camco R6

I also have a Camco Recurve R6 (Easy Lift) and I'm very happy with it. In my opinion, the best one in terms of cost and performance.

I use a spray or two of WD 40 in key points before hitching up and the squeaks and groans seem to much less "chatty"

I also am a Reese strait line dual cam user. We are a minority, but its the only hitch I use. and once its tuned in, its a fast hook up and go.

Out of the box, the Equal-I-zer is embarrassingly loud. However, it has lubrication points called out in the manual. Those who have greased their hitches per the manufacturer's instructions have had good results. I have augmented this lubrication with the polymer friction pads. Took it from sounding like a junkyard car compactor to rarely a sound.

Other hitches may have similar lubrication points, but most people (myself included) don't read the manual.

Equalizer

just pulled off a Fastway E2 hitch(white knuckle sway while towing) and put on a Equalizer 4 point sway hitch. A 100% improvement in sway control and weight distribution and the bars are easy to get on and off. Had to beat off the bars on the Fastway E2 hitch. I pull a Surveyor 251RKS, 7000lbs loaded. Tow vehicle is Ford F150 3.5 EcoBoost max tow pkg, 20 inch wheels.
