Weights

After weighing truck and truck and camper, I come up with that the front only carries an extra 30#, seems odd??

Pin weight (or rear with camper - just truck) =1420
Camper weight pin + wheels 8180
Truck alone 7180
Front truck alone (steer) 4010
Front truck w/camper (steer) 4040
Camper wheels 6800

Came up with payload capacity 9200-7180=2020

Has anyone had any experience with the load on the front axle being minimal?

2006 F250 supercab GVWR 9200
Fifth wheel camper

(these weights are with camper loaded for a weekend, wife and cat)

Although I didn’t weigh my truck itself, when I scaled, I only get 1/8” drop on my front end. I can’t imagine there’s much going up to the front wheels. But really, with only being a couple inches in front of the rear, it would take a lot to see much on the front that far ahead of the pin.

It seems odd that you place 1400+ lbs directly over the rear axle and your front axle doesn't take much of the load?

Seems about right to me.

If the pin were 2 feet in front of the rear axle, the front would take more weight. On the flip side, hook up a bumper pull trailer and that rear axle acts as a fulcrum point and actually takes weight off the front axle. This is why weight distribution hitches are so commonly used.

With about a 150” wheelbase, 2” inches in front of the rear, you get about 1 1/2-2% on the front axle.

Mine are the same. Since the hitch sits on the rear axle, it generally carries all of the weight.

I can understand the pin being over the rear axle that the rear axle would receive the bulk of the weight but thought the front would seem a little more. Never checked if there was any squat on the front, just about 1" on the rear.

Mine is inconsistent- I’ve seen no change and I’ve seen it unload by 20 or 40 lbs. Basically within the variance of the scale.
