Op you need to look at your pin weights.
My gmc dually diesel has an available payload of just over 4,700 lb.
Single wheel will probably be overloaded.
Thats alot of weight that dual wheel stability would help to counter in wind and other conditions

Alleyoop,
From what I can find online a 2015 Cardinal 3800FL has an unloaded weight of 13,559 lbs and a GVWR of 16,315 lbs. Have you weighed your unit at a scale ?

The cardinal website shows the bigger ones around 16k gvwr like you said. ( the highest gvwr on their site curently is 16,605)
Now cedar creek has a couple 18k gvwr units.

Even if the camper had 8k axles, that would put at least 4000 lb on the pin if the axles were at their max on alleyoops 20,000 lb 5er. But if the unit is only 16k rated, of course then this will all be much lower (and make for a much less colorful story)
I think alleyoop might be confused or exaggerating numbers a tad.

Certain colors have better power/mileage/creature comforts than others.

Choose wisely.

My 2012 Ram dually has 4,300 lbs. of payload.

My buddy's 2014 Ram SRW has 4,200 lbs. of payload.

The newer trucks can be quite impressive.

Im guessing your buddies is gas? I think most single wheel 1tons are around 11,500 -12000 on gvwr. Obviously the tires limit any single wheel to around 6,000-7,000 on the rear axle without going to 19.5" rims and commercial tires.

Diesel, actually. I think his GVWR is 12,200 or something like that. I looked at the stickers on the doorjamb one day, but don't recall them offhand. I do recall being shocked his payload was so close to mine. His is a Ram Longhorn Laramie, so it's got a lot of bells and whistles also.

And yeah- I assume rear GAWR and tire loading capacity are going to be hit. As well as GCWR.

But, just posting that the '13 and newer trucks can have some impressive numbers.

Funny how that line is so true, I had a salesman tell us once that a 3/4 ton diesel could pull anything that was in production.

Guess they don't really care about weight ratings just sales.

Didn't Freightliner buy the Ford Heavy duty truck line a while back? Does that make a Freightliner a rebadged Ford???
