The pinbox is called "Reese Revolution" same as the sidewinder, no air shock like the airborne. Never used an airborne pinbox. The hitch in my truck is a Hensley BD3, it has two shocks and two air bags.

I have the retrofit version of the Revolution (Sidewinder) and it works great for towing and never having to worry about contact with the cab as I have a short (5'6") box on my Sierra. Since yours is factory my question is can you move the pin box from side to side by hand or does it only move when hooked up to the truck?

Due to my newer RV I am needing to upgrade to be safer. I am looking at different possibilities. when I towed her home dry her weight was rated under 11000 lbs. however, loaded she has a capable weight of 15500 lbs. my current receiver is a 15000 lb husky with slider. it sounds strange because I have a 8' bed but when hooked up I was so close to the RV with my bumper I was only able to hook up "straight" or I would hit. to my surprise while towing her I had no trouble at all, making corners and everything. that husky receiver is a very simple receiver, no bells or whistles. never noticed ANY towing problems in the 300 miles getting her home other than terrible electrical install from the dealer (another story). This is why I was asking so many questions. To be a bit more clear of my situation, I am towing a 2014 sierra 5th wheel with a 1 ton GMC dually I might move up with my truck in the future as well (to a diesel), only currently I haven't seen the configuration I want. with the new technology the way it is, it would take out the guessing work and hopefully more dependable. (again, another subject) thanks, if you could fill me in on your opinion of your setup +'s and -'s it would be great.

I personally think that all makes have something to offer. This is what I use.

When I first bought the RV I could move it by hand. After a couple of thousand miles I could move it if it was not in the sun too long as it was cold. Awhile later I could not budge it at all. Last year I broke it down, cleaned all the rust and welding slag from it, re lubed the pin & bearing surface along with the friction plate as per the maintenance instructions. Today I can still move it with some effort. I generally push it under the overhang when camping or parked. I'm 5'8" 170# and 70 yrs old and I still can move it. I'll more than likely break it down again in the spring.

The Hensley BD3 that I have is rated at 18K gross trailer and 3,500 # pin weight. The TS3 is rated at 25K gross trailer and 4,500 pin. They are expensive but worth every penny, you get what you pay for. I've had my BD3 for over five years.

Love this!!! I feel the same way. Some said that I could not / should not run with my current setup. Have traveled approximately 5300 miles on 4 trips. I love the setup and could not be happier with how everything performs. I would never tell anyone else they should or should not run with a setup similar to mine. All I will say is I am very satisfied with the way I travel.

PhoneDude

You used to pull that with a Tundra right? I am curious, how long is your short bed? I see you are still using the Reese revolution? The reason I am asking, trading in my Tundra for a 6 1/2 foot bed 2016 GMC 2500 Duramax, on Monday. i was trying to figure out if I still need my Reese revolution..

Thanks

Nice rig, getting the same exact truck, even the same color, on Monday. You like it?

So far, so good. With the cap design, I'm not sure that I need the Demco autoslider, but that (combined w/the Trail-Air pin) is pretty smooth. Granted, I don't really have a basis for comparison. I'm judging that based on my initial fears -vs- reality. It wasn't near as bad as I had psyched myself up for.....
The truck pulls, IMO, well. You, definitely, know that the trailer is back there, but it's not overwhelming. The truck, itself, has a smooth ride....quiet, powerful, and the creature comforts are nice. Overall, I am very happy. My one regret is that I didnt get the Denali 3500HD DRW....meh...........Im actually still thinking about giving this one to the wife and trading her SUV in on one.

I use to tow my 30ft v lite with a 2006 Chevy Avalanche 1500 but it wasn't really big enough to tow it long distance. Switch last month to a 2016 Ford F250 6.2 l 3:73 rear end. Haven't got to tow with it yet but come spring it will get it's chance. So far love the Mirrors and backup camera set up definitely going to be easier to hook up. A lot stiffer ride going from rear coil springs to Heavier leaf springs so there should be less bounce when towing. Gong from a 5.3l 4speed to a 6.2l 6 speed should be an improvement. All in, it should do a lot better and I should be able to go a lot farther than I did.

You are gonna like the difference. I just upgraded from a F150 and wow! Night and day difference. MPG is not the best but that engine goes when you step on it.

FYI, Keep your tailgate locked. With the camera it is a high theft item. Only takes a minute to remove it.
