Take a minute a watch this video. Also pay attention as to how the travel trailer starts to sway just before the semi flips.

Drive safe & careful folks.
Happy trails,

I bit the bullet, was able to find the oem online at another dealership and save 50 on it. My dealership is gonna install and flash the computer for 200 bucks. Safety first.....

Lets put money aside first, you need to find out if there REALLY is a difference form the dealer system to a simple prodigy.
Now i have and like a prodigy but the factory have been adding some really great features, so you need to find that out before complaining about $200.00!

Not really complaining about 200 bucks, was merely asking a question....I did however purchase the OEM controller...aside from its overall features, I do like the clean look that it offers...having invested a lot of money into our hobby over the past two seasons including our new camper last year and a tow rig upgrade this month, I was just curious what others would do in my shoes.

We understand that you are only trying to make the right decision and have come here for help. If your Ram OEM controller works as well as our Silverado OEM controller, you will be very pleased. Aside from having the use of it, the OEM will be a strong selling point at trade time. Happy campin' !!!

Please don't say," If you have a quality, well adjusted WDH w/ sway control, any sway control that may be integrated into your TV will not be activated because you won't experience sway"

Winds affect sway on trailers- semis going by a 80 MPH affect sway- turning quickly to prevent a collision affects sway. I see it asll the time traveling down the road.
Happy trails,
I have to agree with bill, wind is a killer and no matter how good your hitch and antisway it cant react as fast as the integrated system. We where blown across 1.5 lanes by a major cross wind, the truck anti sway kicked in and applied truck brakes, trailer brake and reduced power and speed by 15 mph before i even figured out what the noises and indictor lights where all about. This is the first and only time its kicked in and i think we where lucky to have it.

To Dabmeb and Bill, yes, I should have qualified that sway may occur anytime in MOST EXTREME WIND CONDITIONS...conditions that warrant pulling off and waiting. The point I was attempting to make is a WDH properly adjusted will make the TT and TV respond as 1 unit under normal operating conditions...99% of the time. If conditions are such that the TV's integrated sway control comes into play, you've exceeded your safe environmental window IF you have a properly adjusted WDH.

I was facing the same decision just last week. I had installed a P3 in my Jeep Wrangler Unlimited and was very happy with how it works. Even bought a harness so I could move it to my wife's Pathfinder in case we wanted to tow with it. Then I decided the trailer was a bit too much for the Jeep for any extended hauls so last week I picked up a 2016 Dodge Ram Ecodiesel. It didn't have the factory brake controller in it, I figured I'd get a harness and move the P3 over to it.

But then I asked about having the dealership install the OEM break controller for me as part of the sale. They originally quoted $495 but finally agreed to just do it.

I'm glad I went with it, now it's tied into the EVIC system and the dash displays various information about it. Not to mention it's now an integral part of the vehicle electronics as opposed to an add-on external unit.

You may not know your "environmental window" until it happens. Years ago, we were returning from a hunting trip in Wyoming. We had driven at least 1300 miles that trip before a rogue gust of cross wind put us into a serious sway event. Nothing before-nothing after. It may have been a wind devil. I managed to pull it back using the brake controller. Integrated brake controllers weren't even a dream back then. As you say, the WDH was adjusted properly and the TV was a heavy duty 4x4 3/4 ton pulling a 21' TT.

The point here is, you never know when something like this will happen. If it does, it's too late to make the decision on the brake controller or any other equipment. This is why I will go with the best system available. It's the 1% that I am concerned about.

Not familiar with the mopar? The intergrated GM controller also looks at the traction control and anti sway control to make corrections. If I had the choice I think I would go with the factory unit. My new Chevy doesn't have it and the dealers can't retrofit so I have the p-3 .

We have it on our '13 Silverado and love the integrated brake controller. We are having the same problem as you trying to find an integrated brake controller for our E-450 cutaway. They come as a factory option, but not as dealer install. The F series is no problem. Go figure.

I used the Prod. unit on several vehicles, now have a 2015 Ram with factory integrated system and IMHO, that's the only way to go. It seems to operate much smoother, has better adjustability, and I have many less bumps/cuts on my knees as I enter/exit my truck. Over the time you'll have the truck, the extra $200 is really a minimal amount of $$ for the service and convenience of the factory system.
