Which Weight Distribution Hitch to use?
I just bought a Rockwood Roo 233S. I am going to pull it with a Dodge Ram 2500. Are there any recommendations on the best one to use? I keep reading about the Equalizer, any thoughts if this is worth the extra money? Thank you in advance.

I bought a 23SS earlier this year. Not knowing any better at the time, I had them install a Husky WDH system with 1200 lb bars, and friction based sway control. I've used this setup on an F150 and now my GMC 2500HD.
Have put 500 miles on it so far, and have had no issues with towing, weight (my tongue weight is dead on at 13% of TT weight), or sway issues (including one trip through 30-35mph winds)
Now that I've been on this forum a few months and "know more", and if money were no object, I would consider an Equalizer or something with better sway control.
But again, have had zero issues with my current setup so far, at a cost of $460.

X2, I have the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System w/ 4-Point Sway Control - 12,000 lbs GTW, 1,200 lbs. Works much better than my old round bar hitch with a friction sway bar.
This guy has the 12K 1200# for $497.88 / free shipping. You do not have to un-hook while backing with the Equalizer either.

I have the husky 12k/1200 also. I've had no problems with it. I put it in my cart at amazon and let it sit for a few weeks. The price kept dropping. Seems like paid a little over $300 for it. The site does not list the receiver size, but it is 2 x 2.

Well i am trying to decide which one is better
the strait line or equalized system?
do you have to unhook either before backing
which is easier to hook up?

So far I've never had to unhook while backing up w/ the Husky. You'd probably have to darn near jack-knife before that's a concern.
Perhaps someone will chime in and tell me all the reasons I should unhook the bars, but so far, so good.
I just read up on the Equalizer web site, and I do like their design, but it's nothing so amazing I'm going to rush out and upgrade to (plus my GMC has electronic sway control, so sway is not something I worry much about)

It doesn't take me more than 5-10 mins to hitch up, including getting the hitch stuff out of storage, backing up, putting on the bars etc, and finally un-chocking the wheels.
I don't think a different hitch would improve it much.

I have had an equalizer hitch for 4 yrs. now. Never unhooked backing up. Controls sway perfectly. I would buy one again.

Note: My other hitch was a CURT Weight Distribution Hitch #17002
Gross Towing Weight 10,000 Lbs.
Tongue Weight(TW) 1,000 Lbs.
I towed with the same TV but a 2005 Keystone outback 25' TT. It was 9' shorter and about 1000lbs lighter but even with a friction sway bar, I was white knuckle every trip.
The new Equalizer performs very well with my Coachman.

I went with the Andersen No Sway hitch. It only weighs a total of 60lbs and is very simple to install. I believe they can be bought for about $400 in the US. The Hitch is rated to 1400lbs and doesn't need to be changed if you upgrade to a larger trailer. I've used mine on several trips since April and I couldn't be happier. There is no clunks, groans or other weirded noises coming from this set up. The manufacturer is excellent to deal with if you have questions.

You are gonna get mixed reviews on hitches because everyone has their preference
With that being said - I have the equalizer 4 point 1,000 10,000 for my 2306
I talked to a few people that tow including my father and also the dealer and then went online and did my homework - I decided to buy the equalizer and haven't looked back
If I had to do it all over again I would buy the equalizer again
I thought the hitch was a bit pricey at first because I didn't know prices at the time. My main concern was sway since I am running a lifted truck on 35's
I did have to tweak the setup after I got it home from delivery (loaded the trailer with gear) never had an issue and its been going strong for over two years now

I researched first, and went with the Equal-i-zer, as the best bang for the buck. I hear the Dual-Cam systems are just as effective for about the same money. Go with a non-sway control WDH, plus add-on sway control, and you will save a little money. But that means more time and more equipment every time you hook up. Significantly? No. But it's more time and equipment. Then again, you can spend several times more and get those Propride, Hensley, etc super-systems. A lot more money for a little more performance. Not worth it (IMO) unless you RV full-time.
The only recommendation you'll find, as far as disconnecting before backing, is for the add-on friction sway controllers...the ones separate from the WDH, that attach to the little balls on the side. Many people feel that this is required, but it's not. You only need to remove if you intent to jacknife the rig so far that the 2 pieces bottom out internally, which would then put an extreme load at the ends, bending something. Or if you jacknife the other way, and actually push the sway controller/A-frame into your bumper. I used a 400 Single Bar WDH and separate sway control with my minivan/popup combo for 7 seasons and never disconnected until the trailer was in place. Never damaged a thing.

I have a equalizer brand hitch. 1200-12000 model and use it on my tundra pulling a 26 foot toy hauler. I have pulled in some really bad cross winds and it works as advertised. You can feel the wind but in no way does my rig ever get near being out of control. And I have never experienced sway.

Had an Equal-I-Zer on our Surveyor 291. It came with the unit (bought used) and I would buy another if we get back to TT's.

All of your comments were very helpful. I have decided to go with the Equalizer. I have done some searching and I can get it for around $200 more than other similar systems. The real area I was hung up on was the dealer was charging $900. While other sites are offering it for between $430 (could not tell if this was new or used) to $599.00 with free shipping.

This thread makes me want to go back to the dealer and ask why the are not recommending Equalizer hitches for newbies that don't do any research first! (aka, me). Lesson learned...
