Who else rents a tow Vehicle?

We have Keystone Passport 3400QB.

9800lbs so we currently own a 2021 Ford F250 6.7 diesel that we use when we go camping.

95% of the time this camper is sitting at our perm. spot and never gets towed.

But to tow it because of weight a 3/4 ton is a must. (Unless someone is towing something similar with 1/2 ton?)

To save $$ has anyone rented 3/4 ton trucks.

Pros and Cons?

Need to see if towing is allowed with the rental company you use. I've heard quite a few do not allow towing...

Rental companies that have 3/4 ton trucks and allow towing a heavy trailer are few and far between.

You may find it easier to find someone that will tow it for a fee.

Just check your local RV sales and repair place. I'm sure they can tell you of someone who can move your trailer for you..

In Early 2017 I purchased a 2016 Ram 2500 Laramie 4x4 CTD Crew Cab with only 17,000 miles on it from Enterprise Rentals. Yes it was tow ready with factory brake controller. Enterprise typically does longer term rentals, ask, they move vehicles around to fill needs.

BTW, I added 60,000 trouble free miles and sold it last year for more than the original investment!

You could even use one of there larger moving trucks and not even mess with a WDH. They are on every corner and do daily rentals.

Question

I'm confused.

The OP already has an F250 diesel "that we use when we go camping", but wants to rent a 3/4 ton truck to tow a 9800# trailer. The F250 **IS** a 3/4 ton truck, and with the 6.7 diesel it's got enough guts to pull much more than 9800#.

What am I missing? Why the need to rent a truck?

I'm guessing because of this: "95% of the time this camper is sitting at our perm. spot and never gets towed."

i rented from enterprise truck a couple times for long distance tows where i didnt want to put the miles on my own truck. Back then it was 50/60 a day. Trucks were clean and drive nice. Had brake controllers and hitch sleeve adapters. Wouldnt hesitate to do it again. I will say, atleast around here you need to book early to guarantee a truck.

That still does not answer the question. If you own a truck that will tow it why spend that money to rent a truck for 5% of the time? This makes no sense, no sense at all.

I got the impression that he was asking (albeit indirectly) if it made sense to get rid of a truck that is not needed 95% of the time, and just rent for that remaining 5%

Yes they do but read the fine print on the contract. Something tells me this was not approved by Uhaul. No WDH that I can see.

I guess my question would be where and why are you towing it that other 5% of the time? Is it to actually take it camping somewhere or some other reason?

We have a 42' fiver and it's parked on a seasonal site. It's been moved exactly 3 times since we've owned it.

1) delivered to our CG from the dealer.
2) moved by a CG owner when we changed CGs.
3) moved by a transporter that we hired when we changed CGs a second time.

Last time I rented a Enterprise truck (well... it was a suburban) it had a block off plate installed on the receiver that the office was not authorized to remove.

So to add to this... Thinking of selling my truck with these crazy used truck prices. 5% of the time we take it camping.

Thanks for the clarification. That does make sense. We sold our fiver and bought a motorhome. I recently sold my Ram 2500 MegaCab 4x4 diesel for darn near what I paid for it new since I no longer needed a towing vehicle.
