My dually costs $58.50 annually for license. NO Inspection. But it's that's much only because I choose to pay $30 extra to support Game and Fish Foundation with special tag. Has a nice pic of a crappie on it. They don't care what it weighs. Inspections were ditched years ago, as a scam and a waste. Oh, and the 5th Wheel, once initial sales tax was paid, was a one-time Permanent license. No inspections on that either. I think it was about $40??

The ways the Gummint has thought up to tax folks amazes me. I wish they'd put that much thought into stopping Caller ID Spoofing (which is EASY to fix btw)!!!
Almost the same in Georgia. $20 a year. Even a $150,000 class C pays $20.

All my numbers were for 2018 models and same config. Obviously different years and bed/cab configs will be different.

I’m sorry you don’t like the examples I used, but rest assured it was a fair comparison using manufacturer websites. You want to compare gas models to other gas models then you go right ahead. You want to compare gas models to diesel and that is what is unfair. [emoji41]

I could have saved lots of money if I had purchased the 1 ton first instead of third for towing an RV.

For us, the F250 was too good a deal to pass up. It was the last day of the year in 2017 and the dealer was wanting to move vehicles. And at the time it was a huge leap from the F150 we had in terms of towing ability and stability for our TT (3039 lb payload)

Sounds like you are from NY? I'm in the same boat (if my assumption was correct on your location) but use my Ram 1500 as my daily drive. I scored huge on my 2005 Ram 3500(dually) with only 36K miles on it that is now my TV.

F-350 CCSB 4x4 SRW 6.7L - Max payload 3,117LB, an increase of almost 1,300LB over the F-250.

I wouldn't call those similar payload capacities at all.

That's apples to apples .

The weight of the fuel, hitch, other cargo as well as driver and passenger(s) remains the same, which translates into a real world increase.

Why even bother with a 3/4 ton truck?

OP--I am completely happy with my "3/4." Has pulled my 14-15K lb 35' 5er many thousands of trouble-free miles. No need to "bother with" a 1-ton. That should explain it, IF you really care. I don't have any problem understanding why TV's come in all sizes and why people choose what they do.

I had a 3/4 ton for 16 years and it served me well. Pulled anything I wanted to buy. Recently purchased a 1 ton and now have a Cedar Creek fifth wheel. That upgrade path worked for me. If I had it to do over again I would go straight to the F-350 dually.

I added airbags so I can level out the headlights on those rare occasions when I tow at night. My payload is within spec and truck tows great. My old truck had adjustable headlights but this one no.

And then there are many who buy air bags to level the truck while towing a camper. Im within all my weight limits, but the truck does squat when our 5er is connected.

You can thank me when I pass you going the opposite direction and my low beams do not blind you as you approach.

I own a couple 3500s and a couple 2500s, all 2015 and 2016 models. The annual property taxes on the 3500s are right at $2,400.00 each. For the 2500s, the personal property taxes are just over $1,000.00 each.

I suppose this could be a deciding factor for some.

Believe me, those bills all come at the same time, and it is painful.

It’s the county more than it is the state. I can’t wait for the day that I can get out of this place.

Sometimes it is just the options. We bought our first trailer in 2010 from a used car dealer. The truck I had at the time was a Ford Ranger. These guys had a 2000 30' 5th wheel with one slide and the only truck on the lot big enough was a 2002 F250 V10 gas with 65,000 miles. I really did not want gas, but the truck was in good shape and I had never pulled anything in my life. Most of our camping was going to be within 150 miles from home and 7 to 10 long weekends a year. We got the trailer, truck, hitch, and Nerf steps for $19,900 all in, tax, title and license included. We now have a bigger trailer and my wishful self has convinced by practical self I need a 1 ton dually, but our F250 still only has a little over 100,000 miles and runs great. Hoping to retire in 5 years and intend on having that 1 ton by then.
