What do you like to do? We've got it all from nude beaches to Baptist churches. The Live Music Capitol of the world has something for everyone.

If you really want to stay near Austin, McKinney Falls State Park is very nice and is in the city limits (but you'd never know it when you're there).

There are several other state parks a little west closer-to/in the Hill Country.

Answer that first question and we can give you some better pointers.

Avoid I-35. Ha!

You might also consider staying somewhere like Fredericksburg. Fun little town to knock around in. Lady Bird Johnson Park is a nice reasonable place to stay. It puts you about an hour from Austin and San Antonio.

Lockhart has a couple of pretty famous BBQ places.

Thanks for the recommendations so far
Commercial or SP are fine. Traveling friends would prefer wifi but not required
Thanks again.

State Parks will have Wifi only at the office (not in campgrounds). Austin is the 4th most traffic-congested city in the US so you want to stay at a place close to your friends. Use Good Sam to find a park in the right part of town. (I don't know anything about commercial parks...sorry.)
