I stayed at the Custer SD KOA in June. OK place but full every night. Check out Custer State Park. They have a lot of campgrounds, some with hookups.

Also Custer State Park is great for wildlife viewing as well as some scenic drives, Don't miss Iron Mountain Parkway or Needles highway.
Keystone is chockful of whatnot shops and was jam packed when we were there.

I just visited there last month, and asked similar questions before I left. Here is the forum about it, and the great replies I got.

Do not stay at President's resort. We also stayed at the Deadwood KOA. It's not much as far as cg go, but very clean. Nice thing was the had a van th would run to downtown Deadwood very hour till 10 pm during th week and 11 pm on weekends. Custer state park is very nice. Has lots of nice camp grounds, not sue how hard it is to get in one.

Didn't stay there, but driving by, there was a state park named after a wife of a president, I think, that looked super.

We like Rafter Jbar Ranch at Hill City. Lot of amenities and in the woods. We also like Spearfish City Park. It is right in town but you would never know it. We will be staying there for the 3rd time this summer on Tuesday.

Jewel Cave National Monument is definitely worth the trip! It has the world's second longest cave. Wind cave is amazing as well. Don't get taken in by the "private" cave tours. Jewel and Wind are the real deal. Pactola reservoir has some great views. Also the wildlife loop in Custer State park is something to see. Deer, antelope, bison bears if your lucky. Then on the commercial side Deadwood has the casino's and the Wild Bill shootout. The cemetery has some interesting history. Overall a good trip!

Custer's Gulch CG, located between the town of Custer and Custer State Park, worked well for us when we were there for the buffalo roundup in the park several years ago.

You might be thinking of the Grace Coolidge Lodge in Custer State Park. President Coolidge like to vacation in the Black Hills.

We were there last month and stayed at Big Pine Campground. Real nice campground in Custer. Also might want to look into Fort Hayes Chuck Wagon Tours. We don't usually do tours but was suggested to us. Well worth the money.

We stayed at Mystery Mountain near Rapid City. Very nice and well kept.

If you can get into one of the CGs near Lake Sylvan that would be my choice.

Deadwood is very nice but it may be hard to get into until Sturgis is over. The plus side of the Deadwood CG is that it is in Deadwood. It is a heck of town to tour.

Blackrock, that's the most awesome photo of Mt. Rushmore I've ever seen. Great capture. I'm headed there next summer. Planning on staying at Custer State Park.

That's a great place. Plenty of skunks around there. They have some good size Brown Trout in that lake and some nice Rainbow as well.
