I did a Search in the Central USA sub-forum for "Aransas" and found this:

There are also several deep sea fishing boats that go out from this area less the mile away from the RV park. We have rented kayaks and paddled the Lighthouse Paddling Trail, about $60 w/ guide.
I also recommend Bob Sandlin State Park. Very nice and close to several other areas like Lake Caddo, Go Devil boat ride at Johnson Station and about 40 minutes from Jefferson w/ the old style drug store w/ great root beer floats and old style candy and treats. Jefferson has a lot of small shops, it was where the timber and building materials where brought in for building in the 1800's. A lot of history and a great haunted tour. Be sure to hit some of the good beef BBQ spots in central TX.

There were several others but I need to work another project.

We stayed at Port A RV Resort during the winter of 2020. While we were on the island, we checked out virtually every RV park there (and there are quite a few) and determined that Port A was one of the top 2 or 3 parks on Port Aransas.

I just saw where the RV resort has been sold recently, so I can't tell you what - if any - changes they have or will be making, but I can tell you that it was a great resort two years ago. A bit more pricy than some, but not too bad. We were booked for 3 months, left after 2.5 months because that was the start of the Covid lockdowns.

I would recommend that you gook at Port A RV resort.

The absolute best park in Port A is Gulf Waters RV resort. Very hard to get a reservation at and pricey but a super nice park. On the beach side of the highway.

Thanks Gsykora ! I'm looking for something more reasonable and don't really need all those amenities. Only really looking for nice site with FHU.

We spent a month here a few years ago. It was very nice, clean and quiet. Most of the facilities were new as hurricane Harvey had gone through there a few months earlier. I certainly would go there again, but I would do a little research first.

We spent a week camping on the beach. We bought a beach parking permit for $12 good for a year. Got it at the HEB supermarket just before you get to the ferry. We went after Labor Day, the beach was pretty empty til the weekend. Mostly fisherman were there.

Mustang island state park is nice and steps away from the beach.

You have been provided with several good options. I live about 4 hours north of Port Aranas in Texas. During February the weather can be iffy, cold. We go to Southern Florida during the winter because the weather is much better and the beaches are much nicer. It is more expensive in Southern Florida. Have a great trip.

Thanks whj469 for the info. We know about the weather variables. We have spent most of the past three winters in the RGV. We were there last year for the Big Storm and spent four days without electric. We were not prepared for that but luckily I was able to secure a generator the first day.

Have been going there for 10 winters now starting again Jan 7th we are in route.

Pioneer RV Resort is BIG you should be able to get a site there, most parks inland will be filled up then. Also Tropical Island Resort you may get a site.

We prefer to stay in the Aransas Pass and Rockport areas less windy. Also keep in mind the 2nd and 3rd week of March are spring break out on the island and it will be PACKED covid or not. Gets crazy in Port Aransas those weeks we stay away then.

Good luck we love it there it is a 2000 mile trip for us one way takes me 6 day to drive it now getting older. Stay safe We are staying at Majestic Oaks RV Resort from Jan 1 to March 31st however we will not arrive till Jan 12th because of doctor appointments. They are filled up though as said can get VERY windy out in Port Aransas.

Nice one can drive out on the beach still unlike south FL where you are lucky if you can even get to the beach.

You are correct brucec it is pretty windy in the Rio Grand Valley. We stayed in Rockport for 3 days a couple years ago but did not even realize how close we were to Port Aransas. We did get a site at Pioneer. We are only going to stay for a week. We are going to try to visit all the Gulf Coast States so we are probably in for a breezy time. Our trip to the RGV is about 1600 miles and we usually take 5 or six days. We are in no hurry.

Morning Camper70, we only stayed down in the valley once down at Brownsville TX right on the boarder. We went out onto south Padre Island had the best cocoa nut shrimp I ever had at a restaurant out their. If my memory serves me correctly takes about 2 or 3 hour drive to get down there from Corpus Christi.
Got my fuel cards tried one yesterday at a TA truck stop near our house worked good. Will be a safer trip not having to go inside to pay at the truck stops. Safe trip Life sure is sweet in your RV

We are about 1.5 hours from S Padre where we stay in Mission. We have been there before and hope to go there to view all the Sand sculptures that were done for Christmas. They are on view till the end of Jan. You don't happen to remember the name of the restaurant do you. We love coconut shrimp. Safe travels to you and Thank You for your service. Thanks brucec.

No forget but when you go out onto the island go to the end turn right believe it was the entire way down then shore blvd to the big Schlitterbahn water park was a restaurant there. However this was quite a few years ago may not be there anymore.
