try fishing below the dam. We got several of those gar things there. Fun to catch pain in the ass to get off the hook. Those things have teeth.

Welcome to Illinois!

I've heard several people say that Carlyle is the nicest CG in IL! You have to get your name in early (like 6 months ahead) to get a weekend spot at Carlyle.

Locals will reserve spots and put their campers on the site early in the week just to use them Friday,Saturday and Sunday. We were there two summers back and arrived ans set up and left to go grocery shopping when we got back there was a note on the camper to see the check in huose. They didin;t see us at the site and it looked like it was unoccupied as if someone was trying to take a space for the weekend. We were ther on a wednesday. The ranger explained what the locals like to do to "hold" a space.

I camp at Carlyle lake 40 nights a year. I have a sailboat there, and it is also the best sailing lake (outside the great lake system) in the Midwest. Eldon Hazlet State park has 328 sites and only 66 are reservable. It is very easy to get a site on all but the busiest Holiday weekends. 26,000 acres of water and plenty of beautiful camp sites. Enjoy!

Is Eldon Hazlett a COE park as well, I can't remember.

Eldon Hazlet is an Illinois State Park. Carlyle also has COE parks as well: Boulder and Coles Creek. All beautiful.
