Galveston to San Antonio

Planning a trip to my nephews wedding. Plan to stay in Galveston at the Dellanera RV Park for a few days then move on to San Antonio.

I'm wondering how to get past Huston. Currently thinking of just taking 6 all the way to I-10. Is that a decent route and does it avoid tolls? Other options? Will probably make the run starting at about 9 AM. TIA

I think Dellanera is closed. It's a county park.

I45 to I10 is a good route right now. No traffic. The city is closed down.
Hwy 6 is good, but it goes through a lot of small towns.

When are you planning to go?

End of May - if the shutdowns are over... As of today, Dellanera is still taking reservations for my dates.

Good.
I think the advice would be the same. If you're leaving Galveston at 9 a.m. you should be able to get through Houston on I45 to I10 fairly quickly.
There is an alternate route that uses toll tags. Beltway 8 goes around Houston to the south.
Highway 6 is an alternative, but you're going to run into more traffic as you near Houston.

You'll love Dellanera. You'll fall asleep to the sound of waves hitting the sea wall. We like it there.

Hwy 45 is much quicker than 6, even though construction frequently has traffic slowed. Concur Hwy 45 to 10 is the best route if you want to avoid tolls

Tolls within Houston have been suspended due to the virus. This would include BW 8 which would be ideal for your trip. Haven’t heard of State tolls being suspended which would include SH 99 (Grand Parkway). Traffic is almost nonexistent.

Glad you mentioned Dellanera, wasn't aware of park.
Thanks

Ah, I was thinking I-10 was a toll road from about I-610 to 6. Zooming in, I see that only the center express lanes are toll.

Thanks everyone.

I really enjoy Jamaica Beach RV park in Galveston. Take 45 to I-10. Highway 6 has a TON of red lights.

I live in Galveston, when we leave here to go west we always avoid Houston. We take San Luis Pass Rd (3005) over the pass towards Surfside. Toll bridge is $2.00 when applicable, not charging right now. Then we travel 288 to hwy 36N. The exit is just a little past Lake Jackson. HWY 36 to I10 which intersects in Sealy. We bypass Rosenberg by taking the spur 10 which shows up just past Needville. We really don't like I45 pulling our TT as it is always under construction and always has heavy traffic.

DO NOT get on loop 610!

When you get on I10, stick to the left hand lanes otherwise you might be forced onto 610.

Galveston to TX

This is how we go to Galveston from San Antonio without going through Houston. We have a small rig so it's easy but a far nicer drive in my opinion.
To Brazoria, Blessing, El Campo, Columbus and on to San Antonio. If you use Google.com/maps you can easily find the above trip.
