Gulf States

We are looking to plan a short notice trip South mid June for about three weeks or so.
We will be meeting family at the Smoky Mountains NP for a week.
From there, my family of four kids (7-13) want to continue on from there and make stops on the Gulf Coast in Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, and maybe even Louisiana since it is do close.

Any recommendations on where to stay for those stops?

We want some beach stops...some hiking or historical cities, etc.

Campgrounds don't need to be state Parks...as we prefer full hook ups and don't mind paying the resort rates every now and again [emoji6]

Might even hit Hot Springs NP on way home.

FL Panhandle and AL:

1. St George Island S Park, near Apalachicola.. miles of beautiful beach within 1/4 mile and quaint Apalachicola area to explore
2. Fort Pickens Nat Park, near Pensacola... miles of beautiful beach within 1/4 mile and civil war fort ruins on site and Naval Air Museum within an hour drive, stay in loop A
3. a number of S Parks on the gulf coast between Destin, FL and Panama City, FL
4. Gulf State Park, AL... miles of beautiful beach about a mile away from campground, miles of hiking trails, an on-site pool and nature museum and great seafood shops very close

There are many more FL State Parks but not right next to the beach.

By the time you get here most everything will be open. Most stores and restaurants are open, just reduced occupancy.
I am currently hosting at Sugar Sands RV resort in Gulf Shores AL. and we were 100% occupied this Memorial Day weekend, and we're not that close to the beach.

These are excellent suggestions above, worth spending some time. Gulfport, MS has some beaches and an excellent island for a day trip. I dont know about campgrounds. Louisana has some beautiful state parks but is not known for its beaches. FL panhandle and AL have nicer beaches for the kids.

Impossible to get in, but Topsail Hill Preserve State Park and Grayton Beach SP.
I second Gulf State Park. I do not like the location of Pandion Ridge(too far from the beach) but it is very nice. Camp Gulf $$$ but location location location.

Actually Eastpoint Fl is closer to St George Island and there is a camp ground which is not to bad. East point has a really nice RV resort as we stayed there several time and traveled over to St George. Later RJD

Yes! Love Eastpoint and Carabelle too! I did not like Ho Hum as well as the other two.

We love Gulf State Park great beach access, many miles of good bike and hiking trails the pool is as good as any private RV resort, puts Texas State Parks to shame.

I second Gulf State park. Bicycle right to the beach, or the pier. Spaces are pretty good sized and easy to get situated. They added heat to the pool this past November. 50 amp and full hookup. Great seafood at numerous nearby restaurants.

Ft. Pickens was mentioned. Half the price of Gulf State park but no sewer hookups at the small sites. Terrific place to stay for a week.
