ISO inexpensive campground near St. Louis

Hi all!

I heading out to Colorado this summer and St. Louis is just about the halfway point on my trip. I’ve been trying to find an inexpensive campground for the night. All it really needs to have is electric hook up, I’m just pulling in to sleep and head out early the next morning. Im not really finding anything like this. Anyone know of a campground like this? Maybe a state campground?

Last year on my trip to Yellowstone, I found a forest preserve campground just west of Chicago called Paul Wolff. It was great, very inexpensive campground! I stayed there both ways. It’s $35 a night for non-residents. I was hoping to find something like that near St. Louis.

Also, I’m military and most active duty bases have campgrounds but Whiteman is too far for my first leg…

Thanks

I personally stayed here https://goo.gl/maps/YiBKbDMFCEfoQVtj6 and really liked it. I have a 40ft fifth wheel and they had plenty of sites I fit in. It's near St Louis. I preferred this over the KOA and Jellystone that are also nearby.

370 Lakeside Park in St. Peters may also fit the bill for you.

AllStays/mil filter should get you any mil spots on your route… and others depending on your filtering. Great app!
Also not sure where your Colorado travels will be, but the Academy has a great campgrounds…. Another up near Woodland Park… Carson has a smaller one as well I think, but a bit south.
Safe travels!!

Also an APP that we use is called "RV Parky". A bit corny but it is pretty good.

st louis stay

Go to Mo state parks and look for BABLER STATE PARK.
It is a beautiful state park in West St Louis County just off I-64 close to the Missouri River.
You will not be disappointed.

Look into the Casino Queen. If you just need a stopover and want to see a few sights of the Lou, it servers the purpose. You can hop on the Metro Link (light rail) and go to the arch, zoo, forest park and all over for cheap.

Understand that the CQ 'campground' is not much more than a parking lot with hookups, but it might suit you.

Lazy Day Campground, Danville, MO. It’s about an hour and a half west of St. Louis on I-70. Very nice campground, stay there all the time during our travels. It also gets you closer to Colorado 😊. If you want to go further west before you stop, there is a nice campground at Grain Valley, MO just this side of Kansas City. Both of these campgrounds are easy off/on to I-70.

ependydad is correct. 370 Lakeside may be your best bet. If you are coming through STL headed to Colorado, you'll be on I-70. Lakeside is just about 1 mile north of I-70 in St. Peters, MO, on I-370 near it junction with I-70. Easy in, easy out! Weekends are pretty full, weekdays it is easy to get a site.

Edmund Babler State Park, as nice as it is, will require you to go south from I-70 on I-64/US40 almost 20 miles, then another 8 or 10 miles on secondary roads to get to the park.

I also stayed here. It was great for exactly what Tim described it as- a jump off point for some sightseeing.

Don't know if they still do it, but you used to be able to get a shuttle from the RV park to the lightrail station.
