Looking for a decent campground near Springfield IL

Hey all. I'm trying to plan our last outing of the year to do some site seeing in and around Springfield. Some great Lincoln history to see there. The wife takes her 4th grade class there each spring and has a blast. So we're looking for a nice campground that has full hook-ups available. If anyone has any recommendations, we'd greatly appreciate it!

Thanks!

Thought for sure I'd get at least a handful of responses. Looks like we'll be checking out the KOA!

Thanks much for the help Mike!

Sorry I didn't see this thread sooner. I was not impressed with KOA campground in Springfield. I would've recommended the double J Campground in Chatham. Your next trip to Springfield I would recommend staying at the Double J Campground. We go there three times a year, it's a great place the owners are really nice and it's reasonable at $32 a night if you are a Good Sam member.

If you want full hook ups, double j is about the only game in town. The sites are a little close together. It can get crowed, especially during the state fair. New Salem has a very nice camp grounds, but no sewer. It is our favorite in the Springfield area.

Actually a better campground then New Salem, Is Jim Edgars Panther Creek State Park in Chandlerville. it's only 15 minutes from New Salem and 30 minutes from Springfield and has full hookup for 25 a night.

We have driven thru Jim Edgar Park but have not stayed there yet. It is on our list for this summer. The campgrounds is so new there isn't much shade. Other than that, it looks be a great place to stay. A lot to do at the park.

Actually the campground is been there for four or five years now. And yeah I agree with you about the shade, but it is great place to go. My wife and I go there at least 4-5 times a year. Let us know when you're going and maybe we can arrange to meet you there and have a nice weekend of camping, we enjoy camping and meeting new people....I make a mean Dutch oven cobbler...or so i have been told...
