If you're looking for something on Lake Superior try Marquette, Michigan.
Campground

You're not far from the pictured Rocks- 10 Mile Beach - good restaurants in Marquette.
Happy trails,

Sault Sainte Marie has has a couple of nice camprounds down river from the Sault Locks. Technically not on Lake Superior but on the St. Marys River. Great view of the Great Lakes freighters if you are in to that. Soo Campground and Osborne Campground. Brimley State Park about 15 miles northwest of Sault Sainte Marie has lots on Lake Superior(Brimley Bay) with a small treeline barrier. A good hub for alot of area attractions.

Also check out this place:

Got a recommendation on that from people here, but couldn't get in. We ended up down the road at a real dump called Wandering Wheels. We drove by the Munising Tourist Park and it had terrific lake views.

Hi,

If you are set for minimal amenities, as in boondocking, there are many Forest Service campgrounds on the UP near the lake.

However, the Porcupine Mountains State Park western unit campground is on a bluff overlooking the lake, and has trails and access to the shore. It's usually nice and quiet, although pretty isolated. The Porky's eastern campground has more improvements, is not quite as rustic and a bit closer to civilization.

Hope this helps.

We always stay at Michigamme Shores Campground when we are traveling out west and back. It's about 30 miles west of Marquette and on a lake. I would suggest reserving early to get near the water. It has 30/50 amp hookups. Great people who own the campground. Go to Michigamme Shores Campground

In 2011 we stayed at your park (nice) and Gitche Gumee just outside Marquette (interesting owner) which is across the street from a Lake Superior beach park.

We stayed at this campground last summer on our way back from the west. Right on the shores of Lake Huron. Just north of the mackinaw bridge. Very nice area.

If you want to be right on the shoreline of Lake Superior along the UP:

Munising Municipal CG about 3 miles west of downtown Munising right on Hwy 28. It is an older campground and grandfathered in from all the modern set back requirements. So the CG is right on the shoreline. Munising is a nice small town and gets very busy from about June 15th, especially on weekends. Not far from Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore.

I also agree with Woodland Park CG in Grand Marais, Mi. From the campground there is a row of trees then maybe 200-300 feet of sandy shoreline then the whole expanse of Lake Superior in front of you. It's pretty impressive.

Grand Marais is a small town quite a ways off the main east/west highway. If you like being off by yourself and a long way from civilization it is a great place. You can't beat the shoreline access and views. Also a popular agate hunting location.

The pictures got turned around on me. The first two are the shoreline in Grand Marais, Mi, very near the Woodland Park CG. The third picture was my camping site this past June in Munising.

Very nice... They have 26 full hook up sites that go fast so reserve early. We tried getting in there 2 years ago and they were booked solid...

I toured lower and upper Michigan this last summer. It is a great place. My blog documents the places I stayed and the things I saw. It also includes about 20 other states. Lots of pictures too. www.gozatravels.blogspot.com

I didn't say they had FHU. I stand by my statement that this is a (Great )place on (Lake Superior)! It is located (IN Town) easy walk to (restaurants, hardware store, gas station, small shops,Geo museum, beach, boat harbor,Coast Guard Station)! Short drive to (Log Flume),Sand Dunes, ect. They also (Do Not) have a Pool! Youroo!!

Yes, you didn't say they have FHU's. Don't take offence I just wanted the OP to be aware of that fact.
Happy trails,

We have a couple of state parks on Lake Superior in the Keweenaw Peninsula. McLain's and Fort Wilkins are state parks with electric only but nice parks. Then we have a couple of city parks on the Portage canal with FHU around Houghton & Hancock. There is a lot of copper mining history from the 1900's and a fort from the civil was era. The National Parks have restored a lot of history with display sites all over. PM me if you need additional info of the area.

Stayed there once and that was enough. If your self contained w/FHUs it's ok but the campground if very outdated when we stayed a few years ago.
