need campgrounds advice, Texas spring 2014 gulf beach access

looking for some campground advice on the Texas gulf Coast. Thinking Galveston or Corpus Christi areas. Would really like to be on the water. Really appreciate any pictures you have from past stays, or information on which parks are still recovering from hurricanes.

I stayed at Sea Breeze RV Park in Portland (10 minutes north of downtown Corpus Christi) last fall while Yvonne was in the hospital recovering from a broken hip. Wonderful park, great people, reasonable rates, right on Corpus Christi bay, with a spectacular view of the skyline of downtown Corpus. About 30 minutes south, on the south side of town, is the causeway to South Padre Island.

Check out Goose Island State Park in Rockport, TX. It's a really nice park with waterfront sites on Copano Bay, good fishing all around that area.

I would go to the Corpus Chrisit area and not Galveston. It is much nicer there and a good number of people go there for winter RVing. Good Luck

Check out Galveston Island State Park and if you want a more private area, we stayed one time at a Sunrise Beach RV campground in Mathis,Tx. which is close to Corpus. . Our campsite was right up on the water. Very nice smaller RV park.

Do you usually prefer state parks or private campgrounds? We always tend to stay in state or national parks because I always find them to be more roomy. Just curious.

Looking hard at Galveston Island - that is where we first thought. My concerns are the comments about hurricane damage. It looks like the gulf side campground is very tight and completely exposed, is that right?

Also - can't find a dedicated website for Sunrise Beach, but from Google is looks like it is on the bay, so I assume there is no swimming?

Check out jamaca beach RV park just outside Galveston. Nice park with lots of things to do.

Corpus area ocean much nicer than Galveston.

No hurricanes in spring if that's what you mean.

Yes, you can swim in the bay (if it's not too cold).

Sorry - I was trying to ask if they campground had any shade, any trees etc. If a storm blows up, we are gone, not my first concern.

The pics I have seen make the campground look like beach parking. Some of the camper look like their awnings are touching the camper next to them. With out larger rig, I am just worried the campsites themselves are too small.

What makes the Gulf nicer toward Corpus? Is it warmer, clearer, etc?
