New Waterfront Sites Near Branson

Another campground located near Branson that has some awesome sites will be opening next spring. It is an Corps Of Engineer Campground called Old Highway 86, which was flooded last year and shut down for new construction all this year. While the weather was still nice, the wife & I investigated the new waterfront sites. The new pictures are not online yet(Recreation.gov), as I recognized old site pictures to posted site numbers. So that is why we went down on our own today and we are very impressed. Old Highway 86 campground takes probably 15-20 minutes longer to drive passed Branson traveling south on Highway 65, then west on Hwy. 86 about 4-5 miles, then 1-2 miles on Hwy UU. The entire campground now is water/electric with 50 amp service. Here's a few pics if anyone would like to try camping there next year.

It's not often to be the first to camp at a brand new site, being the first campfire or using the new picnic table/lantern pole. So often tables and sites are so heavily used, that I don't care if we use or enjoy sitting outside on them(warped boards on wood/metal tables).

Those look like great sites John. We love Mill Creek that you told us about; we'll have to check this one out too!

Yes there is! And a new courtesy dock along with the entire campground plus boat ramp with new pavement. A big bonus going for Old 86(at least for us) is a great grocery store with large selections at Hollister, just south of Branson along the way. Now, here is the best part. Located inside the store is Oscars Barbeque stand. You have to walk by it going into the store. They have pulled pork and beef containers, along with fully smoked ribs or pork chops. It makes you lose focus on what you came to the grocery store for, and gives you delicious option after fishing or enjoying the activities around Branson and don't feel like cooking. We have an Oscars in Springfield which I will purchase a pulled pork container to have sandwiches for an easy meal night after a working/camping set up day. Another Oscars is located at a Ridgedale quick shop(at Hwy 65 & Hwy 86) that is also along the way to the campground.

Hey John, sounds like a great spot and a lot of interest. Maybe a FR gathering should be organized.

Yeah, maybe a mini-F.R.O.G. weekend or something. Randy, this is a flat campground to ride bikes or walk in. Normally very quiet, this is a real gem for a relaxing weekend with the rowdys perferring the other part of the lake.

We would be up for a gathering in May or June.
(except the week-end of June 9, thats our 40th anniversary!)

Posted to a Google map so everyone can find the place.

JohnandPandra...thanks for posting those great pictures of the site in Branson. Although, I don't know that we will be traveling there in the near future, it's those kind of pictures that make me realize how much we enjoy our new TT. Thanks for sharing....we have this long Michigan winter ahead of us before we'll be camping again....can't wait for Spring.

What would people think about Father's Day weekend--June 15th and 16th? We would probably go down on Thursday night and be there on the 14th as well. That would be our plan for which ever weekend was picked and if we could make it.

May is pretty busy with graduations and also Memorial Day weekend plans people may already be working on. We all could help Rebel celebrate his anniversary. Nothing like your 40th being spent with a bunch of Frogs!
