nice campground needed near Houston

I am looking for a nature oriented campground near Houston that does not cost over $50.00 night. All I can find in my search are campgrounds that cater to workers and full timers. Any suggestions?

If 60-80 miles is near enough, Lake Livingston State Park or Brazos Bend State Park are good possibilities. We have stayed at Lake Livingston, and there are numerous lakeside sites. Haven’t been to Brazos, but we have never been disappointed with Texas State Parks. Get their annual pass ($70) and the per night fee is $20 at most of their parks. Just about all their parks have electric and water, with some adding sewer.

Galveston Island State Park not on the beach but, back on the bay. Water and electric no sewer but a beautiful bath house nearby.

If I'm working in Houston I stay in one of these RV Parks.

When you say "near Houston", you really have to be a little more specific. What your plans here? This could greatly affect where people are recommending. If whatever you are doing is on the south side of Houston, and you get a place on the north side, you could spend more time driving to your destination than needed. Try and get us at least close on our help.

It's 2 hours west of Houston and one hour east of San Antonio but we stayed at Palmetto State Park over Thanksgiving. Very nice park with lots of trails and the San Marcos river flowing through it.

We are looking for a place to stay while visiting our son in Houston. He lives in Summerwood, the northeast corner. I am thinking of Huntsville or Lake Livingston. Thanks for all your help.
