Places to dig?

We have done crystal & diamond digging in Arkansas, hunt around for fossils and one of our new favorite shows is Prospectors on weather channel.
My question is any one else like digging? Where do you go?

Are you counting metal detecting? Been doing that for many years in my travels.

Here are a few. We have always said we were going to go, but haven't made it....yet.

Cherokee Ruby Mine:: Ruby Gem Mining Treasures in North Carolina

HGI's Emerald Hollow Mine

Also, you might want to consider the Calvert Cliffs in Maryland. Fabulous place.

Wow, that's quite the collection. My wife had wanted one for years, and I finally bought her one for Christmas. Been a little too cold out to use it though.

I use the two with yellow coils at the beaches. The one with blue control box and white coil is from the 80's and only gets taken out for "fun" once in a while. The one in the center is a TDI, used for prospecting. The other three are general purpose.
One thing I do whenever I get to a new area is look online for geocache areas. I'm not detecting for the caches, but they are great for finding local attractions that are on public property.

Hmmm, been talkin' to DH about getting me a metal detector. When we go camping and he takes off for a morning of golf, I can go exploring.

there's even a brand that "Uncle Si" endorses now

I had to look up "Uncle Si" is...
I can only imagine what brand he endorses!

BTW, Whites is the only brand I use. American made all the way, with unmatched customer service!

Edit: Just looked up the Treasure Commander. At $399.00 USD, this is very much an entry level detector. It has an advertised depth of up to 10 inches for a quarter sized target. To put this in perspective, the White's Coinmaster 6000 Series 3 made in 1983 advertised the same depth capability.
