Planning trip to Louisiana
My wife and I are planning a trip to Louisiana this spring if Covid abates. We want to visit the Baton Rouge and Lafayette areas to kayak, listen to good music, and eat cajun foods. I have searched the web for campgrounds to stay in but would like some input from others with experience in that area. TIA.

Stayed in a couple LA state parks which were fine other than the mosquitoes in late June...

Unfortunately we have mosquitoes year round here in South Louisiana, but the Baton Rouge area should not be too bad. Not very familiar with rv parks in the BR area, but there are plenty. Just Google KOA if you don't mind comercial or just about any Casino. Further south towards Lafayette there is Cajun Palms RV in Breaux Bridge (commercialized) or Poche RV (small and quiet). South of Lafayette there is Palmetto State park, where you get to experience the swamps of south Louisiana.
Where ever you stay, there will be plenty to see and lots of good food near by, enjoy!

I have stayed Poche's RV Park and Fish Camp several times when travelling through the area. The owner is friendly and the price is reasonable. There is a small pool, a small kids water park and three large ponds for fishing. Great sunsets out over the one fishing pond. Nice concrete pads to park on at most sites. The small town of Breaux Bridge is close by and is a nice little town to visit. They accept Good Sam and Passport America.

We enjoyed Fontainblu state park was good to use crowded but very nic

I've stayed several times at the KOA in Lafayette (Scott). Nice CG. Scott is the boudin capital of the world so get ready to eat.

If you wanted to go down to New Orleans, we stayed in Bayou Segnette state park 2 years ago, and liked it a lot.

If you do make Lafayette, try to go to Randol's on a Friday or Saturday night. Food is good and the cajun music is super. Last time I was there, music was in cajun french and kids would hit the bleachers on one side of the floor. Older folks would start dancing round to two step and as they passed the kids, they pick one and dance couple of rounds then pick another. So now the kids will have additional grand parents for the night. Goes on for hours.

Stayed overnight at Grand Ecore park in Natchitoches, LA on our way back from Gulf State Park. About an hour south of Shreveport. There are a few things to do around that town. Maybe a place to stop for a rest before getting to S. Louisiana. Really nice level spots and well kept. Only bad thing is it is a pain to get to after dark.

Chico State Park in Ville Patte LA. About 20 minutes north of Lafayette. Has a lake and a hiking trail. Bureaux bridge is central to Lafayette and Baton Rouge and in the atchafalaya swamp. As for camp grounds near Baton Rouge most would be man camps serving the contractor workers on the river. There is a camp ground with hook ups right south of LSU at the BREC Equestrian Center.
There is Tickfaw state park in Springfield which is on the tickfaw river but you would be 45 minutes from Baton Rouge and 1 1/2 from Lafayette.
