Road Warning!

This is for both Central and Western areas. Beware the US285 between Pecos, TX and Carlsbad, NM is in HORRIBLE condition and should be avoided. This section of road is in the heart of the oil fields and has been beaten by the heavy traffic. There is a good tire shop, Forrest Tire, in Carlsbad.

Hypothetically speaking, what should one do if they were to have plans to drive from Carlsbad to San Antonio in June?

The locals tell me that 180 to Hobbs, NM then on to Seminole, TX is a good route. Then go south on US 385 to I10. 385 is a pretty good road. We came thru there on way to Big Bend. Diesel is a bit spare. Happy travels.

That's very helpful information. Thanks much! That is if I happened to be going that way in June

If you do get to this part of the world; try to visit McDonald Observatory. Big Bend is a glorious place. The Stillwell Store RV park, just outside the north entrance, is a really neat place. There is a little, free, museum devoted to Hallie Stillwell. Hallie founded the ranch early in the last century and was a true Texas character and hero.
