Route advice please

I will be traveling from Longview TX to Amarillo, having made this trip numerous times I am trying to avoid Dallas. Looking at my truckers atlas it looks like I could take 271 north to Paris and then 82 West and catch 287 South of Witchata Falls. I figure this will add about an hour to the leg but I'd rather be moving for an extra hour than sitting in traffic and trying to get over to exits, has anyone used this route? Driving a 40' class A with a toad.

I've been across there just about every route possible. You're good to Wichita Falls, but my preferred route from there is 277 to Seymour. Then 82 West to Ralls, then on to Lubbock on 62 West. About the shortest route and roads were decent 4 years ago. There is considerable truck traffic along that way though.

Take a look at 69 at Mineola up to Greenville and then Sherman. I'd either do that or 271 like you suggested. It's about the same.

There are 2 really nice rest stops on 287, one between Chillicothe and Quanah the other between Memphis and Clarendon.

Up to 271 would be a good option for you. I'm a bit west of you so I take 69 up to Bells, and then the same route as you on to 287. 287 is a great choice from there to Amarillo, 4 lane all the way.

Not sure why you'd go WSW out of Wichita Falls to Lubbock then N to Amarillo, it would add 100+ miles to a 225 mile trip and 287 is a great road.

62 West out of Ralls towards Lubbock, not Amarillo.

OK I'm officially confused, the OP is going from Longview to Amarillo while trying to avoid DFW.

Not sure what Lubbock has to do with the original question.

Might just be me, I've been told it takes me a hour and a half to watch 60 minutes.

My bad, I was was having a conversation with my wife this morning about Lubbock as I was reading the posts. [emoji23]. You're are correct on the route for Amarillo. Trying to read, talk, type and taking in caffeine doesn't mix. I guess I have to add this to my "don't drink and drive" list!

We always take this route around DFW. Much of it is 2 lane but traffic is usually light and an easy drive. 287 is 4 lane all the way.

Thanks for the confirmation on 271 being RV friendly, I've made the trip from Louisiana to Amarillo numerous times but always I20 to 114 which drops onto 287 just outside of Decatur, the traffic and drivers in DFW has just gotten worse and worse thanks again for the responses.

You are wise to avoid DFW. It has become a nightmare.

You are correct, I've been inches away from a couple of bad accidents there, people cutting in front of me and slamming on their brakes, I'm pretty sure the last one was an insurance deal, carload of people and absolutely no reason to stop.
