My Grandparents lived in KC and took us on a tour, it's very impressive and worth a drive through if you're staying in the area.

Have a buddy that stores his trailer in the caves. Not subtopolis but stortropolis in Liberty (same company different location). I am not willing to drive the extra 40min for that. They park your trailer for you and you leave it in a yard. You call ahead a day and they have it waiting for you.

Subtropolis takes it to a whole different level though. They make a city out of it. Nice even temperature and humidity year round in both. Great for data centers, storage of docs, film, and other sensitive items.

We have a similar thing here in STL, but probably on a smaller scale. And my work (Sand mine) has quite a bit of underground that was mined out and abandoned. We use some of it for storage, but most of it is just sitting there.

I took this video of a drive thru last year. I'm coming back to the main plant from the actual mine, and you gotta go thru the caves to get there.

Back when we lived on the Kansas side of town, we used to store our boat in the caves by Liberty Missouri during the winter months. I believe they had about 1 million sq/ft of storage in that one cave. Added bonus was that since my boat wasn't in the state of Kansas on the 1st day of the year, I paid no taxs on it. Pretty much paid for the cost of storing it there.
