Suggestions for Southern Camping April 2016

We live in Kansas City and I want to take an early April 2016 trip south for couple of days prior to camping opening here in Missouri. We want to go South and try to stay within a (long) days drive of KCMO. Any recommendations for Southern Arkansas, Northern Texas, Louisiana or someplace I haven't thought of? We would like to be close enough have things to do and to relax as well. Our top priority for this trip would be to sight see in areas we have not been to yet. Yeah, I know, I'm not asking for much.....

Your thoughts, suggestions and comments appreciated in advance more than you will ever know. Happy Trails.

Farmerville, LA. A wonderful small town right on Lake D'Arbonne. There's a nice state park there. It's about 9 hours from KC and not somewhere you think of when planning a trip.

Petit Jean State Park in Arkansas is a gorgeous area if you've never been there. Spent a week there and loved it.

North Texas as in pan handle area or north TX Dallas area of TX? I've been through both, lots of times. Pan handle is pretty flat and dry. Some nice canyons to visit...Dallas area speaks for it's self. Lots to do.

I think the area I was looking into is called east Texas but to me it all looks north. Have been to Dallas already so looking for something new.

Kerrville, San Antonio, Fredericksburg are all interesting places in Texas. Lots to do and see and wild flowers are awesome in the spring.

Mother Neff State Park in central Texas is nice as well. They just put in a full hookup loop at the beginning of the year (2015) with concrete pads that are level. Adjacent to the pads are crushed granite areas with a fire ring and picnic table. Spacious sites with privacy.

We spent 5 days there last week. There is hiking and a river. This is the first state park in Texas and there are still some remnants of the CCC construction in the 1930's.
