Plan your trip to be passing through Houston on the weekend or between the hours of 10am and 2pm. (or better yet, plan your trip to come across I-20 to completely avoid it and Louisiana and come down through Mississippi)

On I-10 also avoid passing through Baton Rouge during rush hour. Of course, bypass New Orleans by taking I-12.

When passing through Mobile, AL avoid going through the tunnel during their "rush hour" especially on Sunday and Friday evening.

When in FL take I-10 as far as possible, avoid Hwy 98 on beach, especially during the weekend.

Hope that helps!

We spend a good bit of time at the Oasis RV park on the west side of town. We also live in DFW and travel 287 on the way up to AMA and 20 when we go east.

Take a look at taking 287 to 82 in Henrietta (for the most part a very good road) taking 82 east to either Paris or Texarkana then dropping down to I-20. (This will keep you a good ways from the DFW nightmare.) Then drop down to Mobile at Jackson.

When going into Navarre, stay on I-10 to FL87. It goes directly into Navarre, without the need to take US98. They are doing some work on it, but we take it whenever we go down there (multiple times a year) and there is plenty of room for an RV.

Where are you staying?

Good advice above regarding taking 287, cutting over to Texarkana to avoid DFW, then I-20 to Jackson and then cut down to Mobile. I've driven and towed all of this. There is a bridge in Mobile that will bypass the tunnel but I've not driven it. I towed through the tunnel a couple of months ago, no problem (although it was not the rush hour.). No propane restrictions on the tunnel. I took I-10 on to Pensacola, but can't help you beyond there.

A few miles short of Jackson but Poverty Point state park at Delhi, LA is very nice. Easy on and off I-20, only 2 or 3 miles north of the hwy. We stayed there going and coming from Pensacola.

I agree with the Poverty Point recommendation. We stayed there one night in our long way to Goshen.

Let me suggest your first night be at the Winstar World Casino in Thackerville Ok.

It is a world class RV resort and if you've never stayed there your first night is free if you join the club. Then the next time you come thru have your spouse join and get another free night. It's only a few minutes from Gainesville and about the middle spot from Amarillo to Minden, La. Even if you plan to dry camp they have a huge area to park for free.

We have stayed at Santa Rosa Sound. Very nice place. We have stayed at Wendy Oaks in Florence. Enjoyed it. Texarkana RV Park in Texarkana nice new park but no shade. We used the awning so it worked fine. Wichita Falls RV Park in Wichita Falls.

That is a very nice resort. Good access to everything in the area. If you are looking for the best beaches, go over the bridge and turn left at the four-way stop. Those beaches are very nice. If you go to the last entrance, you will have a lot more room. That beach is also free.

If you don't mind driving a bit, when you go over the bridge, take a right at the four-way and go to Opal Beach. It is located in the National Seashore. Less, people, because they charge $6 to get in.

Either way, Navarre is a nice area and the beaches are good. Enjoy your stay!

By the way, FL87 ends near this resort. When you get to the end of 87, be sure to go to the light and take a right and quickly get in the left turn lane. If you take the west-bound ramp, before the light, you will overshoot the entrance.

Fort Pickens is in the same area as well. Miles of clean beaches and affordable. And only half price if you are a senior. We drove there in May, from East Texas. Nice drive.
We also liked Gulf State Park, over in Gulf Shores, AL, albeit a bit more pricey. They also have beautiful beaches and miles of great trails to hike or ride bikes.
