Travel from Joshua, Tx-Kerrville

Will be traveling from Joshua, tx-Kerrville this weekend. Pulling 29' Forest River Cardinal. Trip looks pretty simple going down281 to Johnson City then on to Fredericksburg. Just wondering if HWY 16 is best from there to Kerrville Shreiner park

Welcome guys. Sounds like a pretty neat trip. I didn't know there was a town in Texas named after my oldest son, but I do now! <gigglesnort> I'm not sure about that section of Highway 16, but in the hill country, 16 tends to be pretty twisty and turny, with lots of hills. I know between Kerrville and Bandera it is like that. But it is a beautiful drive for sure. Maybe someone else that has traveled that part of 16 will jump in.

Again, welcome!

We go to Fredericksburg/Kerrville pretty much every year and when pulling our trailer we always take Hwy. 281. We tried 16 once, and it seemed a lot more up-and-down and winding than 281.

We know our favorite stops along the way - so basically we're set in our ways and love going to that area of the Texas Hill Country.

Safe travels from RVers in the Weatherford/Parker County area.

Thanks for the replies

We will take it slow and easy. taking 281 to Johnson city, 290 to Fredericksburg and then 16 to Kerrville. I checked another forum that said 16 was ok between Fredericksburg and Kerrville.

There is also a bypass you can take to avoid downtown Fredericksburg. On 290, turn left just before Walmart and it takes you around to 16. At times there is lots of congestion downtown. Can't remember the street name, use Google maps.

Hwy 16 is fine. You want to take "Frienship Loop" around Fredericksburg...turn left at the traffic signal at the LaQuinta hotel. You also want to take the loop in Kerrville to get to the park, turning left off Hwy 16 on to the loop about 3 or 4 blocks after you go under Interstate 10. I think it is 534 and it dead ends to Hwy 173. Turn left and check in for the park is on your left.

Before I retired in 2003, we use to come out of Dallas with a set of pups, go to Marble Falls and drop 1 of them, pick up an mt and go on through Fredericksburg then on to Kerrville down 16. The worst part about Hwy 16 is the nut with a cell phone in their hand, our trailers were 28 ft long and 102 wide, so your 29 ft would be a nice ride. Have a nice day
