2011 Sunseeker 2300 and city camping advice

We put a downpayment on a preowned 2011 Sunseeker 2300 which we are scheduled to pick up in about a week. It only has 6000 miles on it and seems in good shape. We intend to do a thorough inspection before final paperwork, but this is our first RV so it is pretty overwhelming... wondering if there are any specific problems current owners would recommend looking for now to avoid surprises in the future?

Also, considering first roadtrip from Denver to Nashville and then to Houston as we have two kids graduating from universities there. Not planning to haul a toad but concerned about places to park as our kids live in apartments in town with no RV space available (even if we are not staying in the Rv while in town). Have looked for nearby campgrounds, but not finding any. Any other suggestions? We are looking forward to campgrounds and wide open spaces but city environments have us stumped.

Most universities have large parking lots - think stadiums, etc. Call the university police departments, etc and ask.

most cities have anti-RV parking laws and your options are limited.
some mobile home parks have sites for short-term RVs.
might be a KOA nearby or on the outskirts of the city.

For a single overnight most Walmart and Sam's Clubs allow RVs to use their parking lot. Always check in with the store manager for official permission and directions on where you can park. If you are affiliated with a church check your denominations churches in the community you are visiting. I have allowed visitors to use our church parking lot on occasion.

I would carefully check with the munipalities where you may park overnight. I agree that cities are very rv UNfriendly. You have to consider both the legality and risk from breakins if your rv is not visible from where you want to stay. If overnight street parking is allowed where your kids live, are the streets wide enough? If you plan to pack the fridge, is there a LEVEL place to park (you will destroy the fridge if you park off level overnight and it is running).

Thanks for all of the great suggestions. We have located few campgrounds not far away to check out and will check with the university about lots. I'm sure this first trip will be quite the learning experience.

To follow up... after submitting email inquiries, one University offered to open chains on a lot near the campus police station where we can stay four nights for free. They were very accommodating. The other had no available space, but mentioned RV parks nearby. We are hauling a tow car behind our Sunseeker 2300 but feeling like we probably would have been fine without one. Next cross-country trip of this sort, we will probably leave it behind.
