2017 Forrester 3011 trailer braking system

I own a 2017 Forrest River Forrester 3011 and plan on towing a 20ft enclosed car hauler which has its own breaks. On my truck I use the prodigy P2 brake controller when towing the trailer, it works well and I like it. I have an extra prodigy P2 that I took off another truck that I sold and was thinking about installing it on my Forrester.

My questions...

Does anyone have a prodigy P2 on a 3011 Forrester?

Is it needed or do these RVs have there own built in breaking system?

Can you even install this on the RV?

What kind of weight are you planing to tow. 7500 is the limit I saw with a WDH.

The weight of the trailer will be below the weight limit of the hitch and the tow limit of the RV. Total weight between 5-6k lbs

I'm using the P2. Just need the connector harness to hook up.

You will want the brake control. The coach brakes will thank you. I got the Tekonsha plug in adapter from e-trailer. Just remove the little cover above the radio and you should see the plug in for it.

I have an 18' enclosed but have not towed it yet. Check your weight and if you are going above the 5000# or 500 tongue weight you may need a WDH. If your trailer is a v-nose make sure the bar mounts will clear.

On your original question, the E450 chassis on the 2017 Forester 3011 does NOT have a built-in trailer brake controller so you will need to install your Prodigy.

If you are to be pulling a 20' enclosed car hauler, you are going to need a brake controller. The cutaways do not come equipped with a break controller. Ford offers an integrated brake controller which is an excellent choice. However, it can only be installed with the initial factory build. It is not available as a dealer installed option unless they have recently changed their policy.
