3010DS first trip... and second too...

Our 2016 3010DS was stocked and ready to go. The 2010 Ford Escape was rigged with Blue Ox and ready to go, confirmed by Ford and set up by Ford Service for flat towing... (you can see where this is going). Our first stop out of Marietta GA was Tupelo MS, 296 miles. We Stopped twice and "started the toad and ran the gears". Arriving Tupelo, toad would not start. I had installed the charge line from the coach. I replaced the battery... no go. The tranny had boiled and toasted. So, we called AAA, put the Escape on the flat bed, and sent it back to the dealer who OKed the flat tow...
After a bit of back and forth with dealer, they replaced the tranny and installed a Remco tranny pump kit... total of about $8500 retail total, and they completely covered the bill.
I have a 2010 Escape that should be flat towable... but I just dont trust it.
We restarted the trip without a toad, and rented a car in Jackson Hole, at the airport... and returned to Marietta 7 weeks later... good trip.

Hmmm...... lots of encouragement for my first "toad" experience coming up next week. But, mine is an older Jeep Liberty 4x4. So far, no problems just towing it around town to get adjusted to it.
Good luck with the Escape.

And, the 3010DS was great! It was stable through high winds, and high altitudes. A pin on the rear passenger leveler "Up Switch" bent, and the "All Up" light would not come on. Call to BigFoot, quick answer, vice grips to straighten the pin and all was well.
That was about 20 minutes, and we will replace the switch. A drawer latch came apart, I had to adjust the inner screen door latch to release properly. All in all a really trivial set of issues with the motor home.
We are adding a few coat hooks and stick up boxes for stuff in the Bath room.
So, anyone looking for an Escape that is totally prepared, Remco too... we will probably look for a Jeep....

BTW, thanks for the report on the rest of the "problems" you had with the 3010DS.

I'm always looking for storage ideas for our 3120, so I'm curious - what are "stick up boxes"?

Glad you wound up having a great time!

Camco makes those wooden boxes that have sticky tape on the back edges. I use epoxy though, the tape comes loose with time...

My mechanic said not to try towing my wife's 2 wheel drive Escape but if it were 4 WD it would be fine. Towed daughters Chevy instead. Now tow a 5er,,,

When we bought the 3010DS and started thinking about a toad, we were disappointed when we found we couldn't tow DW's new Renegade. We dropped back to our 2nd option, the Liberty. Other than the 3010DS, only Jeeps sit in our driveway. Our son bought our '04 Grand Cherokee a couple of years ago.

2015 Corolla 6 speed manual. All I have to do is run it 3 minutes before driving. I also get 40 mpg on the highway with it.

Bought a 2016 Sunseeker 3010DS in January, our first RV ever. After the decision was made to purchase the RV, we knew the toad would be a Jeep Wrangler because of the manual transfer case. Since January, we have flat towed the Wranger 5,500 miles using a Blue Ox tow bar set up and Brake Buddy system. NO problems and NO regrets.

Bought a four-door Wrangler in early 2008 more than three years before our first RV, a 3170 bought in late 2011. From Oklahoma we have towed the Wrangler to Nevada, Texas, Florida, and South Carolina (Texas, Florida, and South Carolina more than once) without a problem. The Wrangler is my daily driver and I may never sell it. I understand the newer Wranglers do not have a steering wheel lock, which would be convenient. We also love our 3170.

My Wrangler has M/S tires and has seen no unusual tire wear over the 20,000 plus miles we have towed it. A friend of mine has a 2010 four door Wrangler with a, I believe, two inch lift and much more aggressive tires. He tows behind his RV and his front tires have scalloped a bit, but not much. His Wrangler is also his daily driver. A tire store told him that it was from towing; that the Wrangler's front end was hunting. But then the tire store guy may have never been in a motorhome, may drive a Miata, and may have no real time basis for his opinion. I really don't know. Someone else told him it might be worn front shocks, which I could believe sooner than towing. In any event, my friend hasn't stopped towing his Wrangler.
