AC Question

Our 2291 has the upgraded 15K AC unit with Heat Pump. On our trip to the Gulf beach it worked great as far as keeping the MH cool in the 90 degree days with 70% humidity. During the day while the sun was hitting the MH it ran nonstop with the thermostat on 75 ish. Once the sun went down it would shut off for a few minutes then turn back on. Then it started turning on and turning off within about 15 seconds. About every 3rd time it did this I could hear the compressor kick in and it would run for about 10 minutes and then shut off. It would then start the cycle again. During the short cycles the air was cool, but the compressor did not engage. Is this normal? Is this a themostat problem. Or ? Thanks in advance !

Mine does that occasionally too. I read on here how to reset the thermostat. With the unit off, press the OFF button and the + button at the same time and hold until you see --. The thermostat is reset and I bet that will cure your cycling problem.

Thanks....I will give that a try. I also read a post on here that a Coachmen owner contacted Dometic and they said it was normal as long as the compressor wasn't engaging. Thanks again!

This almost sounds like the temperature in your Forester has come within 5 degrees of the setting and is going from high fan to low fan. Our does that on days when the sun is beating down and warming the coach up. It runs for a few seconds on low and goes back to high. I usually set the fan from auto to high until the outside temperature starts to go down and that solves the issue.

I didn't notice it changing fan speeds. The thermostat is on auto and the unit completely shuts off for a few seconds then comes back on and runs for less than 30 seconds without the compressor. It does this 2 or 3 times then the compressor engages and it runs longer. I have no complaints about the cooling as it's really nice inside. There was even condensation on the outside of the windows. Thanks!

X2 on setting the fan to "hi" or "Lo" to avoid this issue.
