AC Shorts out

In my 2016 FR 2401 MBS. Every time I start my AC the generator shorts out. I have to set the Temp to 89 then start AC on Low and it works. Then after running a while I can go back and set AC on Auto and it runs fine. Can anyone give me insight on this matter. And how to correct.

With no information about your generator provided I will assume it is a small one and the startup amperage is too much for it.

for people to be able to help please provide the follwing:
1)What generator do you have?
2)What AC do you have? 13,500 btu?
3)Does the AC work fine on 30Amp shore power?
4)Has the AC functioned fine with this generator in the past and it suddenly started doing this?

Ac shorts out

Generator is a Cummins Oman QD 3200. 3.2 Kw,3100 rpm,120 v ac, 26.7 amp.
Always had the problem. There is no problem when hooked to shore power.

Install a "hard start capacitor" on the AC. Set WH and fridge to gas when on Generator.

wild guess and simply a guess. do you have all other devices that use 110 vac turned off? like the water heater, refrigerator.

i could see getting to a site and turning the generator on to run the a/c. but the water in the heater is cold and as soon as 110 vac is available the water starts to heat it using the electric heater. no much load on the generator. but then after a while the water gets hot, the electric heating element turns off, and now generator runs a/c.

again just a guess

Several posts in the past related to the Onan 3200 diesel and A/C. E.g.:
http://www.forestriverforums.com/for...ems-93115.html

Sounds like the Onan 3200 Watt diesel is “marginal” - can work, but requires close power management.
