add insulation to the dog house??

Down sizing from Class A DP to Forester 3011DSF.

Only real issue so far (won't pick up the unit for another week) is noise while driving. Yes, I realize the DP was much quieter and why but:

I've head others talk about adding insulation to reduce noise and possibly heat from the dog house. Anyone have info on what insulation is added (is it a kit of some sort)? While it might reduce heat into the drivers area will it also increase heat in the engine compartment itself?

As usual, any and all help greatly appreciated.

I used Dynamat products and liked them. Used it in several off road vehicles including the tranny hump in my jeep and the also the doghouse in my bounder to cut heat and noise. Stuff works well. Albeit it can be pricey but doing just the doghouse wont be too bad.

I am sure there will be other responses with other options..this is just the only sound deadening and insulating product I have experience with.

I did mine about a 1 1/2 years ago. Used a product called Cool It Acoustical & Heat Control Mat, The Suppressor. Company is called Thermo Tec.
Really great stuff with an aluminized surface that faces toward the engine.
For the dog house on a Ford you'll need the 60" x 36" size. After install you will be able to reinstall the original material over it.
Did quiet it down alot, and heat is now not noticable at all.
Be aware you will not be able to do the dog house in "one piece". Due to the compound curves and surfaces you'll have to "piece" it in place. Also, veeerrry sticky, almost like Eternabond. Once it's down, it's down!!!.
Got mine on Amazon and would recomend it.

A little trick is to use a heat gun and a roller. Makes the dynamat much more manageable.

I have used Dynamat in the past on cars, and looked at it for the Ford doghouse. Found it would cost 3 times as much as the Cool It, which works just as well. Nothing against the Dynamat, just expensive,

Oh yea.. There have been tons of knock off brands.

All do the same job.

Some are more so for heat, than sound insulation.

We are contemplating the purchase of a Forest River 3011DSF. We have not done the test drive yet. I have heard that they are noisy. Is this what people are talking about? The engine area between the two front seats? Sorry, I don't know much about this type of stuff. Thanks!

Yeah, pretty much what we're referring to. Doghouse is the cover that covers the engine. Some heat does enter as the cover is a plastic composite with just a thin moulded liner.
Yes, it can be a bit noisy as the V-10 is a high revving engine, and it sits right in the interior.
But remember, it's a big box that's screwer and glued, and nailed and stapled togather, mounted on a heavy duty truck chassis. It is not and was never ment to be a quiet luxury vehicle. There's just not a lot of insulation or sound deadening material added at the factory.
That's why the addition of heat/sound deadening mat is helpful. It does work and is worth the few bucks and time to install.

I went to my local auto grave yard. I picked up 4 insulation pads from crashed pickups for 20 bucks , measured cut and hot glued into place . has been working fine for 4 years now.
