Add LED for reverse wiring
What would be the best way to tie into reverse or a reverse light to wire in an LED light?
I want it actuated when put in reverse.
There is a wire harness and loom just behind the hitch. Appears to go to the driver tail light.

Beep beep backing
If it was me I would not disturb my chassis wiring harness. I would opt for the
trailer wiring connector. The backup lights are the center pin. YMMV

I installed a 3-way switch on the tongue of my camper, just behind the propane tanks. I get power source from the 7-pin harness junction box (Reverse power wire) on the tongue, then another 12v source from my camper battery. So I have the option of Lights on when vehicle in reverse, OFF, then Manual override anytime I want to brighten up the back side of the camper when camping..

You could wire to the reverse pin in the 7way junction box. I would suggest using that as a trigger and use a relay to the battery so you are not pulling large amounts of power through your Tow vehicle for spot lights.
I connected it to a wireless remote instead directly to the TT battery. I keep the keyfob in the truck and just turn it off and on manually.

I put it all in a dry work box on the tongue. The remote controls the reverse lights, some other lights and the tpms repeater.

The first issue would be to connect the center pin of the 7 pin connector to the reverse lights of the tow vehicle. That connection is not normally made be default. Then on the trailer, I would have that center pin run to a relay with the secondary side of the relay supplying power from the trailer batteries to your back up LEDs.

That's a pretty slick solution. I may have to steal your idea!
Thanks for posting.

Nice job. I think the OP is a class C. I'm sure it can be done like you did it.

I missed the forum and read the posts about the trailer hitch and went to TT mode in my head. I would still use either a relay if tapping into the chassis reverse or use the remote option.
Many models have a canbus that will detect too high of a load as a short and shut down the lighting circuit. They have put it on most of the high end trims but not sure what they have done to the chassis models.

True, with computers taking over, you need to find other ways to go. relay is a good way to go.

So yeah, the center pin is hot in reverse so I'll tie into the wiring for the trailer connector. Thanks for all the ideas.

On my last unit they were sealed led units that had nuts
on studs covered with foam on the back.
So what happened to plan A?

I was unable to access the wiring harness for the receiver without cutting into it. I figured it would be easier to tie into the reverse light from a tail light. But, i was unable to pop a tail light off to check it.
