Aftermarket install of Arctic Package?

Hi, folks --

Another question from a relative newbie. My recently purchased Sunseeker did not come with the Arctic Package. This package costs, I think, somewhere around $300 if included as an FR installed option. The dealer is telling me the cost of installing now would be $1200. Does anybody have data about what an aftermarket install should cost (e.g., what you or somebody you know has actually paid or been quoted)? There are lots of good threads speaking to whether or not the tank heating pads are useful or meet the design intent; I'm looking specifically for cost data.

Not sure specifically what is an Artic package but do the following yourself and you'll save a ton of money and have a better winter product.

1. Electric tank heater pads on all tanks
2. Use heating cable on all drains.
3. Have entire underbody sprayed with insulation foam
4. Replace single pane glass with double pane glass if not already so.
5. You'll need constant a/c power either by generator or campground to ensure that is running constantly.
5. I personally would install a recirculating hot/cold water system so water in lines doesn't stagnate.

On all of our Sunseekers we enclose and run duct work back to our tanks so when the furnace is on heat can be pumped back into that area; since the heating pads were not installed before the tanks were enclosed it makes installing them aftermarket difficult and therefore expensive.

I also just bought Sunseeker 2800QS without the Artic Pkg. and was wondering what was involved to protect my tanks and water lines. Thanks

Your tanks are already enclosed and have duct work ran into the enclosed area to pump heat in there when the furnace sis running.

As Joshua has stated;
I also have just purchased a Forest River, Forester 2301. Mostly the same as Sunseeker 2300. Got what I thought a good buy on a very low mileage 2014. Was also concerned that it did not have the artic package but it did have other options that were liked by me so the trigger was pulled and purchased.

A recent trip with my wife for a week has put the artic package option desire to a rest. Using one of the remote temperature reading units that can be bought at Walmarts for $10-$20 the results show that the enclosed and heated basement compartments work extremely well. At no time did the compartment vary any more than 5-10 degrees lower from the inside temperature of the coach. So running the heater to keep the coach warm will take care of the tanks and drains automatically. For my use the battery operated heat pads are not that high a priority anymore.

But my question to Joshua is what about the hot water pipes low point drain which is below the coach? Why was there not put a shut off valve in the same area as the fresh water drain that is heated? Seems like this one red low point drain that has a cap to act as a shut off valve, being under the coach could freeze. Should this be corrected?

It shouldn't be corrected. Where they are placed is fine.

17racer,

Right or wrong I did a mod on the drain valves by adding two cut offs in the bay for hot and cold, and moved the drain lines out the back by the hitch so I dont stand in water. Thus I deleted the hot water drain cap. See my photo album called misc, pic 26 I think. The valves are side by side in the pic. The foam is new pest proof style.
