Air vent under refer

Why do some 3010DS models have a air vent grate under the refrigerator and others don't?

The air vent is actually the return air for the furnace. Don't know why some would have it there and others not, except that furnace must be in a different place.

We changed the design.
1. We did not like the look of the metal grate. it never matched anything.
2. We found that by putting a gap at the floor and installing a "baffle" (board about 2" behind the floor gap, that was shorted at the top instead of the bottom) the return air flowed into the gap, up and over the baffle and reduced the noise from the furnace considerably.

Could you provide pictures. Would be really interested in possibly doing this on mine

There is a gap at the bottom, like a toe kick. Then behind that we box in all 3 sides (so nothing rolls underneath there). Then the furnace is raise up higher than the height of the gap. An even better way is if you use a carpeted board on the back side and run it a little higher yet....but we wanted to make it possible to work on the furnace if need be.

Of course we covered that big front hole with a solid removable panel.
