Alignment

My dealer said I need to call FR about getting my Sunseeker's alignment done so it's covered? Anyone have a number?

Why isn't your dealer making that call?

I don't know. What I do know is that it isn't the dealer that does alignments. I don't care if I have to call, I just need to get it done before April 1st.

If it's on the Ford chassis, you may want to wait until you get 2,500-3,000 miles on it. I've read on this forum that is how long it takes for the suspension to settle.

As for finding someone to do the alignment, look for a large truck service shop. For example, I'm about an hour away from Syracuse, NY where they have several that service large vehicles like Ford-based School Buses, Ambulances, Utility Vehicles, etc. And the Camping World in Syracuse claims they can do it too (you have one near you?).

Also Bclemens published some tighter alignment specs several times, if you cannot find them searching the forums I can send them to you.

Joseph, can you send that info on the specs my way? I'll be picking up my 3170DS beginning of May and would like to add that info to my files.

I know where to take it already. . I'd like to see the specs as well. Also, what's the most efficient way to check the air in the airbags?

Not sure if it was considered a warranty item or not but I was reimbursed by FR for the cost of the alignment. My dealer took care of the pre-authorization and said FR would cover it if it was within a month or so of delivery. I had it done, emailed the invoice along with before and after specs to the dealer and a few weeks later got a check from FR.

I'll weigh in on the whole alignment thing. My 3170 wondered all last season after we purchased new. It now has about 2700 miles on it when we put it away for the winter. I always inflated the tires to the recommended psi before every trip. Over the winter I drove it to a local truck shop and discussed with them the issue I was having and gave them a printout of the posted specs. They put the RV on the alignment rack and checked it out. After inspecting the alignment, road testing, and comparing it to the specs provided to them the tech told me that I was very close to the alternate specs and within the Ford spec. He stated he would be happy to "dial" it in and add the new bushings if that is what I wanted, but said he would feel bad taking my money for what would make very little change in the steering feel.

The tech instead asked if he could lower my front tire pressure slightly, suggesting that the recommended tire pressure might be causing my front end to ride up on the center of the tire giving less contact with the road surface and affecting the steering. He dropped it about 5 psi and told me to see if I noticed any difference driving it home. He also recommended that i should not drop the pressure any lower than 10 psi total. I did notice a difference in the way it handled on the way home. In the end I paid only for their time to put it on the rack and check the alignment.

I did call Forest River before hand and they offered assistance. I can't remember the gentleman's name but he said he would make a note that I had contacted them and to submit a bill when I had the work completed. I figured since I was not out of specification I would not submit the bill for the alignment inspection.

I was told to take it to Harold's. . I don't know what specs it should be, I have no idea what bushings are. I hate feeling like a 'dumb girl' sometimes. lol. Just when I think I'm getting all this stuff down, I have to learn more.

Thumbs up Alignment

My new 3050 was a real handful driving from Texas to S. California last fall. I had it realigned to Bclemens numbers. The drive back to Texas this winter was totally different. Drives like a truck should drive. Very pleased. I mailed the invoice to FR with the before settings and after and they paid me back.

Thanks FR,

J. V.
