Allied / Nationwide dropped me

So we are shopping for insurance. As part of Allied getting bought out some of their agents, including ours, were dropped. Allied refused to transfer our policy to another agent and dropped us like a rock. Never had a claim and never missed a payment. Guess they want out of the RV insurance biz. I was curious what insurance companies folks use on here since I suddenly find myself in the market for a new policy and I have a month to buy.

We are using Progressive. No claims yet, but our premiums seem to be staying flat.

USAA has been great for us, and very affordable.

Talking to my agent, rv insurance is a little trickey.

If it is a travel vehicle it is insured with your car. Placed in a permanent site it is viewed as a home. Different deal.

There are better insurance companies. USAA is cnsidered one of the best from a consumers perspective. Likely not the cheapest but, best service.

We are with Cincinatti insurance. Also one of the best. Adding a $60,000 fifth wheel to my policy was less than a 25% increase for us. $300.

Move all your policies.

We have statefarm now.. We were nationwide customers for longer then I've been around (parents, their parents...). We were even dealing with the same agents family as it was passed down the family. Then one day they just jacked our rates 2x. No other reason than they did not want to deal with an RV.

Statefarm. Wife has had them since she first got her license, when we got married added me to hers. Never had any issues with State Farm (before I was added I use dProgressive and never had any issues with them either)

Allstate. They don't care if it's parked permanently. Just went thru this 3 weeks ago.

Took everything away from State Farm when they dropped my Homeowners.

These threads are interesting.

It can't be compared. Just too many variables.

The only thing I made sure of was that I did NOT insure my trailer with same company as I did my vehicles or my home.

And I found one that let me choose the amount of content coverage I wanted. The one I got, I started with very high deductibles, but they halve every year I don't have a claim. I started with $2,500 to reduce premiums and now it's down to $625.00.

We had good sam for years as well once Nationwide bounced us.. They were okay. It was through National General. We ended up saving a few hundred a year by going with State Farm 100%. Otherwise I had nothing bad to say. I never had a claim though.

USAA currently will not insure motor homes. They will insure tow ables. Just make sure the Rep knows your "RV" is a trailer so you don't get transferred. If you have a motor home the USAA rep will transfer you to their "partner" Progressive for insurance. The Progressive "partner" quote wasn't very good...

Allstate worked out the best for us on our motor home. But their are a lot of variables so no two cases may come out the same. Just call everyone and get comparable quotes...it pays to shop around.

Yep that is what we did.. Get the free quotes, pit them against each other then pick the best price.

Progressive came in the cheapest for us.

Nothing against USAA, but be aware that it is incredibly selective. Everyone has access to the other carriers (though not everyone, I suppose, will qualify). Only about 15% of the population will have access to USAA. I'd like to shop USAA, but I'm in the 85% that can't.

The myth that being loyal to an insurance company gets you a better deal is just that. I was with USAA for 40+ years on almost everything and got priced out. Shop every 2 years or so is my recommendation. I have the RV and Boat with progressive with disappearing deductibles.

X2 on Progressive I was shopping around late last year and switched from State Farm payment is about the same but the coverage was better with Progressive.
